Help cast Heather Locklear's sitcom pilot

94211__heather_lI don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling a little burned out by all the fall-TV-pilot-casting news coming my way lately. That is, until I read this morning that Illeana Douglas has signed on for ABC’s Women of a Certain Age, the new Heather Locklear comedy about a widow trying to put her life back together with help from her two best friends.

Everybody knows Locklear is small-screen gold (LAX notwithstanding), but Douglas, well, she’s pure platinum (as she proved in the lamentably short-lived Action and in her recurring guest spot on Six Feet Under). So now the question looms, which actress should complete the tantalizing trio? (Yeah, I know we don’t know what kind of character the writers are cooking up, but just play along…)

Hilarious Mo’Nique might not be available if Phat Girlz proves as funny as its trailer. Locklear’s Melrose Place compatriot Lisa Rinna would be a hoot, but she’s rumored to be taking over as cohost of Dancing With the Stars. So how about an underutilized thespian like Skin‘s sexy-tough Rachel Ticotin or That’s Life‘s delightful Heather Paige Kent (who’s headed for the side of a milk carton any day now)? Those are my casting choices, PopWatchers, so how ’bout sharing yours?

how about Jean Smart…LOVE her!!! or would that be too many sarcastic types with Illeana Douglas?

  • Jen

Catherine Keener. I just love her. Smart and funny.

To bad Dedi Mazar is stuck on Entourage she would be great playing off of these two. Kim Catrall would be good also but she is tied up (no pun intended) with the new Elton John sitcom.

I’d cast Amanda Foreman who played meghan in felicity. She’s amazing and I want to see her again!

Sela Ward? It’d be interesting to see her try her hand at comedy, and she seems to be the right age.

I think it’s already been cast with Peri Giolpin (”
Frasier”), unless she’s playing another part on the show

I think it’s already been cast with Peri Gilpin (”
Frasier”), unless she’s playing another part on the show

NORM MACDONALD. This way, he would always listen, but always think that the listening is leading somewhere closer to the bedroom.

Since you mentioned Lisa Rinna, how about another one of her former MP co-stars, Laura Leighton? She was absolutely hysterical as Sydney and I think would round out the trio very well.

Locklear needs to be teamed up with a fiery redhead. Since there seems to be a lot of 80s nostalgia, how about Molly Ringwald?

Marc is correct. The part HAS already been cast and it IS Peri Gilpin.

How about Joan Cusak? Kathy Griffith? Caroline Rhea? The actress that was Jen Garner’s main rival in 13 Going on 30? Tea Leoni? Patricia Heaton? The redhead that was the secretary on NewsRadio? Marisa Tomei? Ana Gasteyer? Cheri Oteri? Regina King? Amy from “Raymond, Monica Horan? The brunette that played Helen Hunt’s sister on Mad About YOu? Debra Messing? Lisa Kudrow? Jane Kazmerak (sorry about sp.)? I’d like more details, but all of these ladies can definitely bring the funny.
Another funny fave that I adore & keep hoping will get a HUGE break, but is too young for this role is Emma Caufield– she played Anya on Buffy & was just terrific in every scene. It was an insanely great role, but she really mastered it, and I miss her.

    Annabella Sciorra (?), Josie Bissett

Illeana and Heather sound like a weird pair to me…can’t ever imagine them as friends. Ileanna has been interesting on the Lisa Loeb reality show (LOVE IT but it gets no press). Where the heck is Cheri Oteri these days? I would love to see her on TV again one of these days.

If they cast Vanessa Marcil, I’d be an instant fan.
