Sawyer, before he was 'Lost'

Categories: Lost

Via Defamer comes this Hurty Elbow blog post that rounds up some sorta embarrassing clips made by various Lost actors before they were TV stars. Okay, Evangeline Lilly’s singles chat line ad is pretty old news, and it’s not exactly a shocker to see Naveen Andrews busting some MC Hammer-ish moves in a Bollywood musical number. But then there’s this painful Old Navy ad, where a boogeying Josh Holloway has to fight for face time with Fran Drescher and a chimp. (Not to dis Fran Drescher — I watch her shamelessly hilarious Nanny reruns religiously on Lifetime — but she’s just as, um, lost as Holloway here.) If Holloway’s Sawyer saw this ad, he’d mock the actor with one of his famous nicknames  — say, Twinkletoes. To be fair, though, this is only the second most humiliating pre-fame clip on Holloway’s reel. It’s still not as snicker-worthy as watching him get his ass kicked by Alicia Silverstone in Aerosmith’s ”Cryin”’ video.

Well, at least he didn’t have to say his phone was off the hook! LOL

Woo, Josh is hot now, but in he’s total eye candy in that “Cryin’” video!

I am sure it is old news now, but I was watching a rerun of the first episode of “angel” the other day and sure enough Josh is the first vampire in the series to have a speaking part. Of course, Angel does him in before the opening credits…

In the spirit of LOST’s whole “everything’s connected” meme, how about tying these previous appearances into their characters’ backstories. What would drive Sawyer to do a commercial opposite a monkey? Did he land that video gig in hopes to con the dudes from Aerosmith?

  • Crystal

Yeah, that was him in Angel….I think that was his first speaking part, although as you said, they do away with him prety quicklike.

My husband was watching some horrible B-movie on tv (Sci-Fi channel) a couple of months ago. It was about some scientifically engineered sabre-tooth tiger they cloned back to life. It escaped the lab and started killing hikers in the woods. Josh Holloway was in it as one of the hikers and he was pretty young. It was too funny to watch because the tiger was completely CG – and a bad one at that, not to mention that Josh came a long way from his Old Navy and B-movie appearances.

The Naveen clip is from a film called Bride & Prejudice, and it’s not actually a Bollywood film – it’s Canadian!

Evangeline Lilly who plays Kate is an extra in Freddy v. Jason.. Shes amongst the crowd and if you know her from the show her face sticks out like a sore thumb. It is the movie with Kelly Rowland.

Actually, actually (Joe), Bride and Prejudice may have been made in Canada (?) but the director is Gurinder Chadha, who directed Bend It Like Beckham and is British-Indian, and it stars a bunch of British and Bollywood stars, including Aishwarya Rai, the former Miss World, *and*, totally randomly, ASHANTI!
Naveen’s best role is still the sapper in The English Patient. Although Sayyid “I am a torturer” is pretty rad!
