The show was simply brilliant! Scientology deserves every bit of criticism it is getting; they are no different than any other “religion” and they need to take some crap just like everyone else.

I think it was pretty clear from the conversation they had with Chef when he arrived in town that Trey and Matt read the amazing Rolling Stone article on Scientology. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about this disturbing “religion”. When a group makes it impossible for members to belong and have friends outside the group, there is clearly some cult issues going on.
I thought the episode was brilliant, and you could really feel how hurt they were by Hayes departure. They might have lashed out a little strongly with the child molesting metaphor, but that’s not unlike they tone of the show. I really loved it and applaud Comedy Central for letting it go off.

Was the criticism of the cult of Scientology mean-spirited and grossly unfair? Of course it was – this is “South Park,” not some PC all-inclusive-multicultural hugfest. Did you really expect the guys behind this masterpiece to adopt a conciliatory tone toward this cult? Come on, get off the politically correct bandwagon and revel in the glory that was Chef’s big send-off.

Scientology should be ripped into! Bravo to South Park for being EOB (equal opportunity bashers).
As Howard Stern has always said (losely quoted) “…you know that all religions are ‘made up’ but you really gotta know that this Scientology stuff is made up because it’s not a belief dating back thousands of years, it was made up about 20 years ago!” So true!
Great episode! Still hoping to catch the “Tom in the Closet” one. And how about an episode where the Scientology aliens (Theftans?) come and attack earth? Maybe w/ Darth-Chef’s help?

I laughed for 15 minutes straight after seeing Chef die the way that he did. I think Darth Chef was simply an homage/parody, and not to be taken too seriously. I would love to see Chef come back in his former glory, but the show will live on without the character.
PS, Scientology IS freaky, and I am starting to finally give on on celebs like Tom Cruise that support such nonsense.

I am not the biggest fan of South Park but I just had to see what all the fuss was about after this scientology stuff. Trapped in the Closet is brilliant! Tom Cruise and the rest of the lame celebs who endorse this cult have NO sense of humour! SP is known for making fun EQUALLY of everyone and everything so get over yourselves.

Loved it. I laughed, I cried (almost), it became a part of me. As for it being a publicity stunt, I doubt it. What I do think, is that they timed the release of Hayes’ statement so it would give maximum attention to the new season. Who knows, all that stuff might have gone down months ago.
