First Look: Michel Gondry's 'The Science of Sleep'

We love Michel Gondry, whether he’s directing something fairly straightforward, like Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, or something psychedelic. Imagine the animated Legos of his ”Fell in Love With a Girl” video for the White Stripes mixed with the office segments of his Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and you’ll have some idea of what’s going on in this cool clip from The Science of Sleep, Gondry’s third feature, and the first he’s written himself. Y Tu Mamá También’s Gael Garcia Bernal plays a romantic young man who, like Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine, has a vivid, hyper-real dreamlife. A Sundance entry two months ago, Science is due in theaters in August. Can’t wait.
