In a rare case of the hipster planets aligning, Radiohead is doing the score for Richard Linklater’s upcoming film version of the Philip K. Dick novel A Scanner Darkly. The news, rumored on various websites last December, was confirmed Thursday to EW by the film’s distributor, Warner Independent Pictures. Keanu Reeves stars in the futuristic story of government espionage, which will be rendered in the rotoscope-animated style of Linklater’s Waking Life. Originally slated for a fall 2005 release, the film is now due out in limited release July 7. No word yet on whether the music will be more mainstream than the increasingly out-there work of Radiohead, whose last album was Hail to the Thief in 2003. But we will definitely be listening.
[UPDATE: A day after telling EW that Radioheadwould be scoring A Scanner Darkly, director Richard Linklater's filmadaptation of the Philip K. Dick sci-fi novel, Warner IndependentPictures is singing a slightly different tune. Instead of a full-blownoriginal score, the film will feature music by Radiohead, including abrand-new track from lead singer Thom Yorke's upcoming solo release.Warner Independent is still working out what music will make the cut,and couldn't say if the tracks would be all new or a mix of old andnew. It wouldn't be the first movie with Radiohead music, of course --that snippet of "Everything in its Right Place" was arguably the bestthing about Vanilla Sky. If Linklater wants to go back to the vaults, may we suggest a track from 1997's OK Computer: "Exit Music (For a Film)."]

as far as i read, this was denied by radiohead back when rumors were circulating in the fall; they were approached to score the film but declined.
I really hope they realize that Exit Music was used in a film soundtrack already: Romeo + Juliet, and that is some kind of joke. Otherwise, bravo, morons.
solo album…..dont think so, what a bozo
can’t wait what Radiohead will bring on the table
Chi ci capisce…
Chi ci capisce qualcosa è bravo Thom Yorke si lamenta pubblicamente sul blog del fatto che le registrazioni del successore di Hail to the Thief stiano procedendo a rilento; a tal punto da scrivere quello sclero datato 13 marzo. Intanto veniamo
Is anyone else horrified and nauseated by the fact that Keanu Reeves is the lead roles in this film??? WHY!!!!!!!!!!!! First Arnold Schwarzenegger, the stupid Tom Cruise and NOW……..KEANU REEVES! I’m personally offended and think Dick would roll in his grave. I saw that they are going to make another PKD film next year but at least Nick Cage is a decent actor…….I would actually like to see them use original actors for these films so as not to tarmish the plot with lame ass celebrities. There…..my two cents.

This is by far the most anticipated movie on my list. It is such a relief to hear the radiohead boys will be claiming some real-estate on this one. The book is an indefinite classic and I really think Linklater is going to do more justice to a pkd novel than ever before. Yes I am predicting that this one will even beat out good ol’ Blade Runner or “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep,” By the way, do they?
Exit Music (For a Film) was already used in the film Romeo + Juliet ‘96. It plays over the end credits (exit music for a film). Thom York wrote the song to counter the film’s ending; instead of the couple dying, they get away in the end.
poor heim… who’s the bozo now that thom yorke’s solo album is a completely awesome reality?
