'America's Next Top Model': Makeover madness!

15031__jade_lWas anyone else underwhelmed by the makeovers on this week’s episode of America’s Next Top Model? Where were the radical changes in hair color? The drastic alterations in length and shape? The temper tantrums and the tears? Oh wait, they all came together on the head of one emotionally unstable gal: Jade (pictured). Granted, she had every right to kvetch about the unflattering, close-cropped blonde ‘do that Tyra sentenced her to, but as Sara pointed out, maybe some of the peroxide went to her head. One minute, we’ve got Jade saying, ”I don’t know who I am right now,” the next, she’s declaring, ”I’m a strong-ass woman. I’m a soldier sister.” Either way, I’m betting Tyra’s gonna have Sgt. Jade’s head on a platter in three weeks or less, especially because she’s not even the most interesting drama queen in the house.

That title goes to Furonda, who passed out etiquette rules to her 11 roommates that included such gems as ”I will treat you identical to or worse than you treat me.” As Jade later huffed, ”She thinks she is like an imitation Naomi Campbell, but she’s got it all twisted.”

We’ll be seeing no such cattiness from glorious Nnenna, who let the stylists at Warren Tricomi buzz her head without a moment’s hesitation, then won the personal style challenge by mastering the African Queen look with aplomb. Bonus points for choosing Gina and Jade as her shopping-spree companions in an effort to patch their strained relationship, but I’m wondering how one woman can be so commanding and yet so peaceful at the same time. It kinda makes me skittish.

Anyhow, if there’s anything that’ll stop Nnenna’s march to Top Model status, it could be her lack of quotability. I can’t imagine she’ll ever make me laugh as hard as, say, Danielle, who remarked of this week’s ice-palace photo shoot, ”It’s hella cold! I’m shakin’ like a little Chihuahua.” And Nnenna doesn’t afford the judges a chance to get creatively critical, as they did calling Gina ”confused and dazed,” or describing this week’s eliminated model, Wendy, as a ”frightened bird.” Still, at this point in the competition, it looks like that Gilles Bensimon photo shoot is a foregone conclusion for Nnenna.

What did you think of this week’s makeovers? And who’s your early pick to take home ‘Top’ prize?

i agree that the makeovers were blahsville. but my one comment for the evening, and how to say this tactfully, ‘what is up with naima!’ the last two top model choices were less than ‘fierce.’

  • aaron

Jade getting mad at Wendy for talking on the phone to her newly-discovered-Katrina-victim-family when she wanted to whine to her mom about her makeover really made her look like the idiot she proudly proclaims she isn’t…I love this show!

Why isn’t this a TV Watch anymore?! EW suddenly, on the season finale, makes Project Runway one (too little, too late) and now removes America’s Next Top Model! Come on!
The makeovers tonight where completely dull…only Jade and Nnena had radical changes. Too much long hair in this competition!

  • joe in memphis

EW. you better get antm on tvwatch!! come on guys!!!

  • Simon

I love Mollie Sue’s and Sara’s short cuts. Nnenna is gorgeous with no hair. I was expecting the usual drama in a makeover show, so last night was very disappointing.

  • California

The show was interesting. i didn’t expect Furonda to start acting the way she did, and Jade is freakin crazy. i hope jade gets sent home soon, but the judges always seem to keep around the girls i hate the most so i’m not holding my breath. i love the show, but i would love it more if our tv watch was up. don’t get me wrong, i’m glad we at least get a pop watch, but it’s such a short blurb for a show so full of stuff to make fun of and talk about!!

  • Emma

Seriously, the ANTM TV watch was one of the reasons I started watching the show! Please bring it back. I have to say I dislike Jade, but I think Sara’s makeover, while I didn’t think it was shocking, certainly was a hard thing for her. Hopefully she can get used to it and use it to her advantage, but right now she seems to be afraid of her new hair, and I was kind of rooting for her in the beginning. I agree that Nnenna seems like the front runner, but she’s too perfect, so I’m sure she’ll be eliminated.

  • Janet

Please, please, please do a TV Watch for ANTM. Your commentary + the show itself = pure hilarity. Please!

  • jojo

Jade looks like a Golden Girl with that hairdo.
This show is better everytime i watch it. Although she seems a little crazy, i say “GO FURONDA!” Only because I would love to see someone named Furonda win. How anyone can say her name without cracking up is beyond me. I love it! Seriously, go Furonda! I’m behind you 100%.

i actually felt sorry for jade, that makeover was TERRIBLE!!! that was one of the most unflattering cuts of all time. is it me or did anyone else notice that Tyra kept mentioning girls from previous seasons as the inspiration for the makeover, thats pretty lame! plus jade’s nasty hair cut looks like eve’s cut and color from before, and that was a lousy cut too! most of the time the makeovers make the girls look worse than before. wendy was the right one to go, she was NOT cute, i felt sorry for her situation but she was no model

  • stephanie

I have to say, the best comment of the night came from Nigel. “Jade needs to get laid.” I can imagine that the night she does get eliminated, that Tyra will pull a “Tiffany” after Jade tells Tyra that she is better looking than her. Oh, that would be perfect! I love this show!! Bring back the TV Watch!!!

I LOVE THIS SHOW! Can’t wait for next week when Mrs. Jay teaches the girls how to walk the runway. Jade is crazy and her slanty eyes and scary bone structure won’t take her very far unless she can drop the attitude, which I highly doubt. I gotta go with my girls Mollie Sue, Brooke, and Kari. Mollie Sue has gorgeous hair, eyes, and features. Not many girls can pull of short or no hair. I agree with the judges on Brooke and her unconventional beauty. I think she looks like a cross between the lead actress in “Coyote Ugly” and Amanda Peet. Twiggy seems to be very interested in her as she said, “I can’t help but love her. I love the way she looks and walks.” As for Kari, I think she truly does look like a Bratz doll and I love her pillowy lips. She could sell tons of lip gloss. Additionally, none of these girls are causing drama in the house. I hope they go with a different look this year. Last year’s girl was B-O-R-I-N-G! Also, I adore Nnenna and her lovely accent but she’ll be gone after a while…

Bring back this TV Watch!!! First you ditched The OC (RUDE!), and now all I have is a blurb on a blog for ANTM? Come on, you do one for the Apprentice and that show is totally circling the drain – actually I think its already down the drain, and someone needs to turn on the disposal.
PS: I think Leslie is the dark horse this cycle. But, anything is possible – I mean Niama over Kahlen… wha???

  • Temi

Not to sound like a broken record but… bring back the ANTM TV Watch… I was so anxious Thursday morning to read one and I was devasted that you chose to follow the Apprentice 5 (Which no one watches) and Project Runway (Which is over). But I digress…
Nnena is representing for all Nigerian American women and I love her quiet confidence and beautiful smile.
Jade is crazy which is why we will see her for a few more weeks.
If I had to pick a dark horse it would be Molly Sue or Janie.
Gina needs to go home next week.

  • jlm

There is one advantage to not having a TVwatch, longer, easier to scan or read through comments. The PopWatch was actually pretty fun throughout Project Runway. Just a thought.

  • djm

First – I agree with everyone else – BRING BACK THE TV WATCH!!!!!
So Jade is completely insane. Miss Thang needs to realize that she is too old to win this thing and sorry, but if you were all that then you would have been discovered by now – especially since you live in New York. Get yourself a clue girl. Furonda should be the next to go – she looks horrid with all that hair. I hope Sara can work it out. Leslie is my favorite – my guess is that it will be her and Nnena as the final 2 – although it just depends on what they are looking for. Oh, and I agree with people about Naima – I can’t believe for even half a second that Cover Girl wants her speaking about their products – she is really horrid.

  • Fatima

Too bad Wendy left so early. I have no idea why she would audition at this moment in time however.

  • Msally

I agree with JLM about the TV Watch vs. Pop Watch – it’s much easier to scroll through the comments here than on TV Watch.
Anyhoo, I also agree with some of the others about the makeovers – yes, a little underwhelming as my friend Michael Kors says. Regarding Jade, I think Tyra hit the nail on the head when she commented that her aggressive appearance might be covering up hidden insecurities. Jade will get what’s coming to her, don’t worry.
And along those lines, I really hope that Gina sticks around a little longer, if only she can calm down and take the proverbial deep breath. She let Jade get under her skin, and now seems like a trembling Chihuahua herself! Mollie Sue is adorable and her pixie cut sure is flattering. My favorite so far has got to be Nnenna, who seems humble, intense and regal at the same time.

  • Maggie

First off let me say “Bring TV Watch back” before you’re brought back to your regularly scheduled rant…
Clearly the judges weren’t looking for the weakest link this episode when they sent Wendy home, they were looking for the most drama. Tyra herself said you can’t have a cover in profile…Jade didn’t even show the eye make-up she was supposed to be adverstising head on! But maybe Wendy will come back in a twist? Like maybe Jade will finally lose it and have to be sent home early, and Wendy will get a second chance? Maybe?
Anyways was anyone else wondering how the hell the outfits for the photoshoot were decided? (not that they even needed them since the whole point was to shoot covers). I saw at least one of them in a floorlength gown and another in a two piece…it doesn’t seem fair.

  • LINA

I agree with the judges about jade’s face being harsh. I think her face is hard, just like a man, and she acts like a man too. I HATE HER, I GOTTA PUT OTHERS DOWN TO MAKE MYSELF FEEL GOOD ATTITUDE. TYRA I DON’T WANT ANOTHER BLACK B*TCH ON T.V. SHE IS A BD ROLE MODEL…TYRA PLEASE, PLEASE KICK HER OFF ALREADY.

  • DALE

does anyone thinks ANTM is an advertising show. advertising every article of clothing they wear and every shoe they put on their feet?

  • koma

i think than the most beautiful are molly sue its so cute and so pretty she is the winner…
