Isaac Hayes quits 'South Park'

Categories: Television

173137__chefsouthpark_lWho’s the Scientologist
Who bristled when his faith was dissed?
Chef!
(Ya damn right)

Who’s the cat who didn’t blink
When Jews and Catholics made a stink?
Chef!
(Can ya dig it?)

Who said ”I’m outta here”
Nine days before the season premiere?
Chef!
(Right on)

They say this cat Chef is a bad sport
(Shut your mouth!)
I’m talkin’ ’bout Chef
(Then we can dig it!)

He’s a complicated man
And no one understands him, including Stone and Parker
Bye, Chef!

Nothing is sacred on “South Park”. That’s why I love it so much. I’m sad to see (or hear) Issac go. Why he was suprized, I don’t know.

  • Bertie

I agree, he’s been doing this for years already. Why now??

  • nathan

Nothing lasts forever, at least the show will be around for a while

  • Bertie

Good call Nathan, but who will take his place I wonder…things that make ya go hmmm….

  • Corran

Hang on? EW will make a send off pop watch for a cartoon character but not Dana from the L Word when she was killed in last nights stunning episode? What gives!

  • CEEJ

i sure issac sought some flak from his scientology buddies and felt he had to ‘make a point’. otherwise he’d have to pay a large $$ penalty and lose his place in scientology heaven.

  • soma

will they kill him off on the show now? haha should be funny

  • Bren

I think the choice for Hayes’ replacement is pretty obvious: Dame Judi Dench.

  • Hmmmm

He was probably contacted by the “mothership” to stop. LMAO Well, mother-something anyway. :———————-)

  • Chris

I’m just wondering what took him so long.
I thought “Trapped in a Closet” was THE best episode of South Park, but I wondered about the hypocracy of having a Scientologist in the cast of vocal talent. True, Chef wasn’t in the episode at all, but Hayes had to have at least seen the cartoon. It kinda bitters me up that he made this decision so soon before the new season. Seems kind of vengeful, but I could be wrong I guess.
At least now I have one more very good reason to wish Barry White were still alive. He’d have done South Park in a heartbeat. Hey, he did The Simpsons, didn’t he? ;)

    Ha ha…got hypocrisy?

  • Ned

Don’t blame Isaac, the alien in his soul made him do it. Just as the one inside my soul made me type this. But then again, the aliens inside Matt and Trey’s souls made them make fun of Scientology, so really, nothing is anybody’s fault.

By no means am I a Scientoligist, but one of teir commandments or tenants of faith is that they will not put up with anyone who mocks Scientology, to the point of shunning new members who might have questions about the purpose or legitimacy of Scientology. So Isaac Hayes is just doing what he feels is right…or has been told what is right (over and over and over.)

  • Jimmy

Chef hasn’t really been around in most of the newer episodes anyway. Scientology rules state that if anyone around you criticizes or speaks badly of scientology you must cut ties with them even if they are family. Trey and Matt should write an episode where he gets De-scientologized that would be funny..

  • wiccawoman

Samuel L. Jackson would make an awesome “Chef”.

  • Matthew

Make fun of Jews, Catholics, muslims thats fine but not some Sci-Fi hollywood religion. With spokesman like Tom Cruise and Issac how can you take it seriously?

  • Michael Slezark

    Gary,
    you’re a tool.

  • Jusada

Dame Judy Dench as lunchlady… priceless!

Religions have been created and followed since the begining of time. Now when society develops a new religion, because it is not an old religion it is called a cult. As I see it cults are only bad if they preach and do physical and or emotional harm or the person who formed it takes money from their followers and uses it for his own personal needs. These so called leaders are con artists which are also known as sociopaths. Hence to me former reverend Jim Baker was a sociopath. As for Scientology, Hubbard wrote Dianetics in the 1950’s when sci-fi B movies were popular. So what next, Ray Bradbury and Ed Wood came up with some religions that we never knew about and we are going to think it’s cool? Dead space aliens?!! It is the most obsured religion that I have ever heard about and seen on television. Hollywood stars are only becoming Scientologists so that they can rub elbows with television and movie producers hoping that they can get their next meal ticket!

  • Kate

Smauel L. Jackson as the new Chef? YEAH!!!!!!!

  • Kate

    SAMUEL L. Jackson anyways. Sheesh.

  • dma69

So let me get this straight. Catholics, Jews, Muslims, etc. can be made fun of on South Park. Scientologists, CAN’T DO THAT. What a hypocrite!!

  • KatieHolmes

I hope they explain his absence by saying he left to become a psychiatrist.

  • Bertie

It’s funny that Matt Stone said that he’s cashed a lot of checks making fun of different holidays and religions. I completely agree, he is a BIG hypocrite!!

  • JULIAN

Greeting Earthlings…I have come to let you know that I am an alien and you must worship me. You must follow our scientology belief or I will take you to Planet Utopia…where everyone is a loser like Tom Cruise and Isaac Hayes. Oh yeah earthling, be sure to visit our free dating site for singles http://www.singlesPalace.com ..there are no single aliens on there however.

  • Tayrn

I wonder if Chief is going to die

  • Ep Sato

I heard he left because of personal disagreements over the Scientology episode. While I do feel that the show (as well as Parker and Stone themselves) has become much more mean spirited and reactionary in recent years, it’s a shame they couldn’t find common ground with such a key voice for that show.

  • Charlie

Isaac Hayes is a huge hypocrite. The guy is only mad because South Park finally got to something he cares about. I’m really disappointed. I don’t think they’ll need to worry too much about replacing Chef — it would be weird to hear someone else playing the role, and it’s not like the charcter has been around lately. They can just say he left to pursue his PhD in psychology.

  • FilmNerdJamie

Stone was 100% on the money with his rebuttal.
Hayes is a total hypocrite, and that how it’ll be viewed by the general public. It’s perfectly fine to make fun of everyone else’s religion except yours. Only then is it considered ‘intolerant!’
The court of public opinion will side with Parker and Stone…

  • johnathan

I agree, Stone was absolutely right. Hayes demands a double standard and I’m glad he doesn’t get it.
