In Elton John’s autobiographical ABC sitcom pilot Him and Us (which stars Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Anthony Stewart Head as a spoiled gay middle-aged rocker), the role of Freddy Lazarus, the rock star’s beleaguered manager, was written for a man, but the part has gone to Kim Cattrall (pictured). ”Having a great comic actress like Kim is so exciting,” said John, who’s executive producing. ”I’m a huge fan of hers.” Fans of campy diva-tude, rejoice.

Oh my god. Samantha AND Giles? It’s still 6 months away from Fall TV Season and I’m already excited!!!
I liked her work on Sex in the City but these kinds of sitcoms always fail…too contrived, set up, too obvious. And I think tv watching America wants to watch something benign in terms of what they want to relate to on a sitcom, not a British middle aged rock star…send it to HBO! there it won’t be limited to stupid punch lines but could be witty and as devious as it should be…network sitcoms need quirky “Everyman” personalities…I Love Lucy, Cheers, Mash, Friends…there is a reason for that pattern of sucess…
The first record I ever bought was from Elton John in the 70’s, and I thought Anthony Stewart HEad did a great job on Buffy. I will be watching.
I’ll never forgive Kim for nixing the Sex&the City movie. What a mistake from someone who didn’t realize the perfect ensemble piece when she saw it. The end of Samantha is the end of her career.
