Is 'Joey' dead?

Categories: Television

Has Joey Tribbiani uttered his last ”How you doin’?” Variety thinks so, based on NBC’s yanking Joey after just one installment in its Tuesday slot, in favor of Most Outrageous Moments. According to the trade paper, it looks like Joey won’t return until summer (if at all), when it will likely burn off its remaining episodes. No official announcement from NBC, but if Variety’s speculation is correct, it makes me sad. Not for the series, but for Matt LeBlanc. Having your tailor-made spinoff spend its entire two-year lifespan on a slow deathwatch, only to be bumped in favor a blooper show — what could be more embarrassing than that? Besides having the monkey movie Ed on your resume, I mean.

    “Joey” was still on?

Dude, I thought Matt Le Blanc was dead

the show is horrible. i had high hopes before it even started last season, but the supporting cast is weak.

Please stop adding blogs about Joey and Matt LeBlanc.
He’s an idiot who can’t act and the show was horrible.
Talk about bringing back “Joan of Arcadia”

    Joey was back on??

  • Joe

Time for Matt Leblanc to go back to his Shakespeare roots..lol

I feel really bad for Matt Leblanc. The poor schnook only got a million per episode for the last what, three seasons of friends? I’m sure he’ll be drying his tears on $1000 bills and crying his eyes out as he floats in a chair in the middle of his olympic sized indoor pool.
What a sad day it is for poor poor Matt Leblanc.

    Brotha you crazy?

EW might need to get a new blogger for this site..considering the lame blog about “Joey”

Who cares! This show should have been pulled off last year. The show has actually caused me to hate the old Joey from Friends now whenever I watch reruns.

  • Tim

I hope Matt has invested his money well, ’cause his acting career ain’t going no where.

I think the more appropriate question is whether or not Joey was ever alive. The original friends worked because it was an ensemble cast that never forced the show to focus on one character over another for any period of time. The chemistry between all the characters is what worked and frankly, of all the characters on friends, and most of them are unlikable to me at least, Joey is probably the worst. His lame doofus act was annoying and frankly, him as a player was about as believable as Dick Cheney getting his hunting license re-issued next year. Friends is Dead Matt, time to move on. The Burger King down the street from my house is hiring. Want me to put in a good word for you?

Nothing could be more embarasing than most episodes of Joey.

If they put Joey Lawrence on instead of Matt leblank the show would rock,.

  • Nicky

Ugh..that show was awful and unwatchable.
Joey was never my fav Friend, but ironically, my tween nieces/nephews are watching Friends reruns now and he’s the character they like the most!

  • Josh

maybe if they had used a real monkey…

  • Sharlin

Who ever suggested Joey have his own show? He never had the charisma to have his own show. He was the most annoying character. I would have gladly watched a show on Monica and Chandler.

I feel badly for Matt LeBlanc. I also feel badly for me. I am not a fan of JOEY, but happened to have it on for background noise on Tuesday night. Matt didn’t even seem to be enjoying himself. Now, when I watch FRIENDS, I think “If only I could tell him not to do JOEY!”. FRIENDS will always rock, but Joey should have stayed in New York, and in our tv memories.

I thought it started out all right, but when they started trying to turn Joey and his neighbor into the new Ross/Rachel, it was just ridiculous. Matt LeBlanc is to rich for me to feel sorry for him, but I wish him well.

Pitt dumped Aniston, this worthless spinoff is dying, now if the other four remaining castmembers were hit by a meteor than my curse on that peice of crap show will be complete.

  • Brian

Joey was an ok show, I say let it go and please do the same thing with Arrested Devolpment, some times it just doesnt work

  • suzzysnet

I gotta say, I disagree with the majority here. I thought his show was cute and the relationship between him, the sister and the nephew was well done. I looked forward to tuning in and seeing what was happening with Alex and Joey. I have to admit, though, that I won’t exactly mourn this show. It’s not Arrested Development or Dead Like Me — shows that left me aching for more.

no one needs to feel bad for matt. he had the career of dreams, with friends. very few actors will have that type of success and he is wealthy beyond belief.
I think Matt’s best days are behind him as an actor but he had an amazing ride

I think that the problem was that Matt LeBlanc is not a great actor. Does anyone remember Top of the Heap? I rest my case. He’s funny with a steady ensamble, and this cast is as holey as a chunk of Swiss cheese. Jennifer Coolidge (the second cast member that was a former “Groundling”, Lisa Kudrow was the first)and the guy from Road Trip are making it work. The first season, eh, Ok. But then the second just got as lame as Boston Common and Two Guys a Girl, and a Pizza Place/Two Guys and a Girl. To be honest if any Friend should have had a spin off it should have been Pheobee.

I actually feel worse for Drea DeMatteo…to go from being on one of the best shows on television and winning an Emmy for her brilliant performance as Adriana to this garbage? It was almost painful to watch.
