Bo Bice returns to 'Idol'

Categories: American Idol

145842__bo_lWhen Bo Bice released his new video (for ”The Real Thing”) last week, I might have called its scenario wishful thinking: You’re being pursued by paparazzi and young girls? Yeah, right. Then again, the video was No. 1 on MTV’s TRL by Tuesday. And tonight, Bo goes home to American Idol to sing the power ballad on the results show. You can see the video at Bice’s website (click the link marked ”Media”).

Then tell us: Are you feelin’ Bo? Are you happy to see him back on Idol? Still bitter that he lost to Carrie Underwood? Or do you want him to return to whatever rock Clive Davis was hiding him under for the past few months?

I love Bo and have followed his career avidly since idol. Yeah, I’m still bitter that Carrie won. I don’t think she deserved it over Bo. I predict a long and sucessful music career for Bo. He has not only the voice, but the rare ability to connect with his audience during live performances. He is also incredibly versatile and gifted.

I think Bo’s Idol appearance will be a good thing for him and his CD. I love Bo, his voice, his humility, sense of humor and his obvious love for his fans. The man is grateful for everything that has happened to him and doesn’t let an opportunity to express that pass by

I love Bo, an dwill watch tonight. I can’t say that I’m sorry he didn’t win AI, since I think it would have hurt him more than helped. I didn’t care for Carrie, but she was more AI moldable. Bo needs to do what he needs to do for Clive, then rock to his own tune.

  • fred

say what you will about carrie, but she’s got a top 10 album. sales alone prove she was the more popular of the two. i think bo is great, don’t get me wrong, but last year’s contest is over. stop comparing.

I am very pleased that I had the opportunity to watch American Idol and see such an incredibly talented musician. Then to learn that as a human being, he is even more incredible. I hope this lastest round of news events will remember his personal contributions to the Katrina victims – returning to the 9/11 Syracuse AI fundraising concert, his own concert in Birmingham, lending his Helena house to a displaced family. His voice is an instrument, his heart is gold. I wish this young man all the success that he wants.

I was hoping if Carrie won that Bo would have more say over his career but after watching a special on CMT, it doesn’t look that way. If he can survive this one album, maybe he can break free like alot of the former Idol contestants. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t want the ones I like to win so they don’t have to do the dog and pony show afterwards. AI is great for singers but not if you want to write your own songs and perform them.

I love Bo Bice, as much for his heart and soul as for his amazing voice. Just look at his eyes in the picture above and you’ll see the warmth that emanates from him. As a performer, he’s thrilling to watch! I saw him at Cleveland’s House of Blues in February, and it was the best concert I’ve ever seen. The energy, the charisma, that great voice — Bo’s fantastic! I’m really, REALLY over the Carrie comparison. I can’t wait to see Bo on American Idol again tonight!

  • Emily

I like Bo and I think he’s gonna do great on Idol. I watched the guys last night and it was bo-ring. Bo’s cool.

Carrie can dutifully perform those produced-in-a-factory “hits” but watching a stump rot is more interesting than having to endure her performing. Country music thinks it needs these silly crossover performers so, they can have her. Carrie has a convenient pull-string in her back that the producers and handlers pull when they want her to do what they want. I’ll keep Bo ’cause he’s the real deal.

  • Emily

I like Bo and I think he’s gonna be great on AI tonight. I watched the guys last night and it was bo-ring. Bo’s cool.

  • Tracy

Bo’s albulm is excellent. I love Bo, and will be watching tonight. I’m over Carrie winning, and now hoping the Hickler doesn’t win this year.

I am a huge fan on American Idol, although I didnt watch the first season,(thank God with Justin–YUCK) ever since I have been hooked!!! I was torn with Bo and Carrie last year, they both were great, but I knew that Carrie was going to win, and she is doing great! I am glad Bo is getting back into the spotlight!!! Looking forward to seeing him on tonights show! The girls (Mandeza and Paris) are better than the guys, but there are some guys that really are showing they got it as well! Looking forward to tonight!

  • Lola

The Carrie comparisons are so last year! I never understand the infighting. Bo was my favorite but I’m happy for Carrie’s success. It doesn’t detract from Bo as they are makig careers in different genres. Meantime, I can’t wait to see Bo again tonight. He is so much better than any of this year’s guys.

  • Alice

I am very happy that Bo will be back on American Idol. No one this year has the charisma and ability to grab an audience that Bo does. The AI5 contestants could learn a lesson or two from both Carrie and Bo.
By the way, Bo hasn’t been under a rock, he’s been out touring.

  • brandonk

Still bitter!!! Can’t stand Carrie Underwood.

  • Erica

I am glad Bo even went on the show and made it as far as he did and that we know now about him. I wish Carrie success as she does fit the American Idol role. As for Bo, I know that many were expecting RCA to let Bo put out a more rock cd but I guess they needed a mainstream hit (look at cd sales these days and this is a business after all) and rock radio won’t play classic or southern rock from someone who was on AI…so they had to go more pop rock to really get the mainstream sales An entire album of songs like hippy rock or or soul or blues wasn’t going to get radio or the sales Bo needs so he will have the opportunity to do a second album with a major label. He did manage to get three of his own songs on the dual disc version of his cd though. I hope people will give him a chance… Bo is an amazing performer and musician and has a rock and roll heart.
I was not a regular viewer of American Idol but I caught a couple of Bo’s performances and fell in love with his voice. There may be some credibility issues with him having been on the show but so many artists have said nice things about him. Besides getting to perform at Bonnaroo with Trey Anastasio and Galactic…Willie Nelson has invited him to do a song onstage, he’s received the Jim Croce Music Award and he’s now friends with Scott Ian of Anthrax. Bo is not only talented and all about music…but he seems like a geniunely nice person. He’s made me fall in love with music all over again. He’s humble and funny and cares about what’s important. I hope he’ll be successful enough to continue to do music.

Bo hasn’t been under a rock at all. He’s been working tirelessly to promote his CD and his career. He’s the consummate professional and one of the best performers I’ve ever seen live. I’m really excited to see him on AI tonight, but this year’s contestants will suffer in comparison.

  • Monica

I love Bo, He is great, love his album, love his video, love everything about him, I had the luck to seeing him live and he truly is an amazing performer, it’s a joy to watch him and he has a voice that really grabs you.
I got over the fact that Carrie won, she is having great success and i’m happy for her, but i’m more focused on Bo.

  • Gail

I’m really looking forward to seeing Bo perform. I’ve missed him and haven’t been able to see him perform live. I love his CD, so I wish he could put on a mini-concert with several of his songs tonight. I especially like “It’s My Life.” I think Bo had a hand in writing this one and it really shows off his beautiful voice. He is the “real deal” and has shown to be more versatile than just being the “rocker dude.” And Bo is such a nice guy. Everyone who meets him seems to fall in love with him. I’m really excited about seeing him tonight! He deserves every good thing that comes his way.

  • sal

I’m a Bo fan– no one this season comes close to his voice and personality. That said, what’s with the picture posted with this article?? It looks like someone’s senior year cheerleading portrait…?!?

  • Brandon

Why is it that everyone thinks that Bo didn’t want to put out an album like this? His song choice on the show showed him going in this direction. Carrie put out an album with really good country writers and some carefully observed lyrics. Bo was a good performer, but the performance doensn’t come through on the record and the reverse is true of Carrie. The outcomes of these two albums was predictable.

  • Laura

I love Bo, I just wish he had picked a different song from his album to sing tonight. And the songs he wrote on his album were the best, by far – the others were just ok.

  • djm

I am glad Bo has been out of the spotlight – I have desire none to see Captain Caveman on my tv ever again. Thank GOD I just got DVR – his performance tonight will be easy to FF through (just like Carrie’s last week).

  • Paul U.

    that picture is scary…

  • Sommer

This is what I’ve been waiting for and watching AI for to see Bo come back on and perform. I do like 4 of the guys this season but nothing like what Bo brought to Idol last year. I have been an AI watcher for all the seasons but had never really cared who won until Bo arrived. He is the most awesome artist I have ever seen on AI, his talent and his personality were so impressive during season four.

  • nathan

Have I missed Bo Bice? No Bice!

  • Erin

I am thrilled that Bo will be on AI tonight. While Bo’s music is infinitely better than anything I’ve heard in a long time, I think Bo is most unique in his kind, generous and humble spirit. As a parent, I can’t think of a better role model for young and old alike. Bo always lives his life with grace, humor and passion and is a breath of fresh air in the current celebrity culture.
By the way, Bo has not been under Clive’s rock since last season ended. He has been working tirelessly despite a serious illness to record and promote his album. In fact, many of his fans think he’s been working too hard. During this time he’s put on some unbelievable live performances and was, just this week, in the #1 spot on MTV’s TRL video countdown. Don’t count Bo out yet just because he hasn’t had Carrie’s level of success. You must remember that Carrie had the benefit of a very well-defined niche to fit into with country music. Bo has the harder task of finding a niche in the odd state of current pop-rock radio.
Finally, I want to say it truly hurts me to see some of the rude and baseless comments made about Bo in earlier posts. Please save that for people who deserve it. Bo is one of the most beautiful people – inside and out – that any of you could imagine, who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Shame on you for feeling the need to criticize him. If you don’t enjoy his music, fine, don’t buy it – but please keep your hurtful comments to yourself.

Bob is an average rock singer who whithout the american idol machinery wwoulkd not make it far. I have seen a dime and a dozen like him. Despise all this media coverage his cd did just o.k. comparing to Carrie Underwood or non winner like Clay aiken.

  • terry

Just to let you know how popular Bo is here in Asia. I’m from Manila and Bo has lots of fans here. My friends, colleagues, and sisters love him. Hubby praises him and thinks he is phenomenal. His single The Real Thing is being played regularly here and has landed in the weekly top most requested songs at some radio stations here. Bo is now an international star because the world knows what a truly talented and hardworking artist he is. Congratulations to Bo and we look forward to his tour here. It will be a blast!

  • Christina

Wow. I saw this coming the second I found out Bo would be performing on this week’s show. I knew you would be drooling over Bo. While at the same time you’re putting Carrie as the most over-rated contestant to ever stand on the Idol stage. Can your bias be any more obvious? I might as well do up a draft of your Idol review for tomorrow because I’m pretty sure I already now what your going to write even before the show airs. Bo lost, get over it. Most of Bo’s fans have. Plus the American public has spoken with its wallets as to who their winner was. Carrie has outsold Bo on a 4:1 ratio. Plus the Academy of Country Music seems to be in Carrie’s corner since they nominated her for 4 awards yesterday. I don’t see you mentioning that anywhere.
Don’t take this the wrong way Bo fans, I think he’s great. I’m just venting my frustrations with this obviously biased writer.
