Who is TV's most romantic couple?

91831__jinsun_lThis New York Times piece examining the romance between Sun (Yunjin Kim) and Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) on ABC’s Lost got me thinking about my favorite TV couples. I’d agree with writer Joyce Millman that there’s something ”akin to watching silent-movie lovers in close-up” in Sun and Jin’s relationship, in that they communicate almost entirely in Korean (with English subtitles).

Still, while I’d rank the reconciled castaway spouses among the best of the current crop of small-screen lovers, I’d have to reserve the top spot for Medium‘s Allison and Joe Dubois, who somehow make messy kitchens, irritating kids, and tatty pajamas seem downright swoon-worthy.

Am I on to something, or totally off target? Who’s your pick for most romantic TV couple?

no question……Sydney and Vaughn on “Alias”.

Since you’ve already mentioned Allison and Joe Dubois and now that Jonathan Kent is no longer with us, I have to give major props to Reverend Eric Camden and his wife Annie from “7th Heaven.” Their love has conquered all, including a houseful of squabbling kids and some of the loopiest plotlines in television history. They will be missed!
In second place are Sandy and Kiki Cohen from “The O.C.”, who may just be the coolest parents alive. What I wouldn’t give for a flashback episode focusing on the ups and downs of their unlikely courtship. I’m sure it would work well as an old school spinoff, too.

my favourite tv couple of all time is joey and pacey, but katie holmes’ behaviour of late has ruined it for me. i loved veronica and logan, but they’re no longer…i can always hope.

A few years ago I would have said Sydney and Vaughn.
    But now that’s ruined…
i think that Sun and Jin (Lost), Tony and Carmella (The Sopranos, although they’re separated now) and Lorelai and Luke (Gilmore Girls) are best ones now.
But my favorite one of all time, would have to be Buffy and Angel

my boyfriend and i ADORE Sun & Jin; they have the most incredible, clandestine love story and our two of our very favorite castaways!
also, who even watches medium, michael? i tried– twice even– and it was the most painfully-awful experience of my life. as far as i can tell, Patricia Arquette deserved a Golden Globe for her ability to hold the exact same face for life.

Jim and Pam on NBC’s “The Office”–there’s nothing as romantic as apparently hopeless love (love whose fulfillment will mean the end of the show)

  • Gary

Dr. Dorian and Turk on Scrubs.

  • Kurt

If they don’t have to be current couples, then it’s hands down, “Alias”, Sydney and Vaughn.

  • Josh

Definitely Jim and Pam from the Office. Even though they’re not a couple, they sure act like it.

How could you forget Christina and Dr. Burke on Grey’s Anatomy? Sun and Jin may be a close second, but Christina and Dr. Burke are the best couple on TV.

Totally on the same page w/ both choices. Sun, standing alone, is probably my favorite Lost character. Her troubled romance with the Jin is just part of what makes her character so intriguing. Her reunion w/ Jin on the beach…I was a wreck. I don’t think I’ve bawled as much over any tv episode since the golden girl finale. As far as the Dubois pair, there really isn’t a more genuine couple on tv. All the quirks aside (the frustration of being married to a psychic, her stubborness, his incredulousness, the domestic challenges they face daily), their honest chemistry is something I rarely find on tv nowadays, and part of the reason I tune in every Monday.

Since we’re just talking about most romantic couples and not my FAVORITE couples (even though these are two of my faves), I’d have to say Jim/Pam from The Office and Seth/Summer from The OC.

I second the JD and Turk posting. As for those no longer around, I think Mulder and Scully. You can’t imagine one without the other.

I’m with you on Allison and Joe Dubois. They actually seem to have a REAL relationship – ie., sometimes they annoy eachother, don’t feel like having sex, but they are genuinely loving, caring and committed to eachother, their marriage and their family. All too often the romance angle of TV relationships glosses over the mundanities and reality of day-to-day living; it’s ironic that the wacky construct of a psychic wife comes so much closer to feeling real than most of the other TV marriages.

I know they’ve only had about 14 seconds of screen time, but Rose and Bernard on Lost are one of my favorite couples. The way she believed he was still alive, and he asked Michael if she was… aw, crud, I’m tearing up again.
