Apropos of Nothing: 'Simpsons,' Natalie Portman, robot dog

154543__np_lHere are our favorite viral videos of the day:

- This remarkable British TV promo for The Simpsons is a meticulously staged a live-action re-enactment of the show’s opening. Spot-on.

-From this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live: Natalie Portman (left, with SNL-er Andy Samberg) cleverly prepares moviegoers to see her as a badass revolutionary in V for Vendetta by trashing her Harvard-educated, nice-girl image with a hilarious gangsta-rap rant. Another taped bit featuring stealth weapons Chris Parnell and Samberg, who are singlehandedly saving the SNL brand from irrelevance this year.

-Okay, if you’ve already seen both of those — they’re all over the Web — you still probably haven’t seen this clip, featuring the Best. Robotic. Army. Dog. Ever.

    HAHAHAHA!!
Natalie Portman and that little Queen Amidala scene was the best.
I think I just might like Natalie Portman now.

where would snl be without samberg and parnell? those digital videos/raps are the only funny thing on the show.

I love that Natlie Portman skit.
That robotic dog would have been perfect for Herbie Hancock’s “Rock-it” video from the 80’s…

thank you so much that was fun

I keep waiting for Luke to fly around the robot dog in his fighter and trip it with wire.

I am so glad to see the Natalie Portman video on here. I laughed so hard but I was by myself. It is good to know I wasn’t the only one on the floor!

Natalie is picking up where she left off in Closer. SNL was actually good for awhile last week.

Damn, that robot clip was LOOOOOONG. It was cool, the kick was cool, but that’s all we really need. After that, I was BOOOOORED.
Neither of the other two were boring, thankfully. Natalie’s rap was amazing, although I still don’t think it’s the best of those digital skits on SNL. And no, the Narnia rap isn’t it either. Sitting on a stoop, just eating some lettuce. That was brilliant. I started crying I was laughing so hard (and I wouldn’t mind seeing the Taco Town commerical one more time). The Simpsons thing was great. I just wish something would have happened to them once they hit the couch. The dog growling at them? Them starting to can-can dance? Anything?

“I’ll kill your dog for fun, so don’t push me!” HAHAHAHA! Natalie Portman is hard, y’all. Thanks, I needed a good laugh.

Will Forte (Spelling?) rocks. He is diffently the best one on SNL. Fly thunderbird spirit.

Since you don’t have Parnell or Samburg, what’s saving this blog from irrelevence? Oh yeah, nothing.

That Simpsons re-enactment was freakin’ AWESOME!!! I am extremely impressed with how spot on that was!!
The Natalie Portman thing was pretty funny, but the best part was how incredibly committed she was to the whole thing – like, Oscar caliber committed…
As for the Robot dog, that was pretty darn cool. But was it just me, or was it also pretty creepy too? Anyone? Bueller?

  • Black B

Natalie Portman deserves an Emmy for her SNL performance. Not only was she exceptional as a host, she was better than anyone on the cast.

  • Fmah

    Simpsons? Spot on? Hardly!
    1) Homer’s green bar doesn’t stick to his back when he leaves the plant, although it’s there in the car…
    2) Lisa leaving the band room thru the hallway isn’t perfect…
    3) When Lisa brings her bike into the driveway, sh’es supposed to jump off the bike and let it roll into the garage…
Hate to nitpick, but y’all said “spot-on”…
    D’oh-n’t think so!

  • Tim

    Natalie’s rap was classic.
There’s only been three truly laugh-out loud funny episodes of SNL this season, and this one was one of them.
