Throw your own Mos Def festival

162731__mos_lThis will be a great weekend for folks who, like your PopWatch scribes, can’t get enough of Mos Def.

At the right multiplex, you can program your own double feature of his new movies — watch his sharp-talking petty crook hold the screen with Bruce Willis’ jaded cop in the action thriller 16 Blocks, then hear his joyous rapping and singing in the concert at the heart of Dave Chappelle’s Block Party. If you want, make the weekend complete by renting one of his suprising recent character turns (in The Woodsman, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, or The Italian Job), listening to his classic disc Black on Both Sides, and catching his Emmy-nominated performance in Something the Lord Made on HBO Family in the wee hours of Sunday night.

We’re hoping he’ll return soon to Broadway (where he held his own opposite Jeffrey Wright in Topdog/Underdog), and we’re looking forward to his Brazilian-set thriller Journey to the End of the Night (with Brendan Fraser and Catalina Sandino Moreno), but the above should keep us occupied for a while.

I just hope that Mos starts getting the respect he deserves. Much love to Mos Def!

Don’t forget his GMC Denali commercials and the now-and-again late child support payments for his 5 children.

Yay! Its Ford Prefect—whoops, I mean Mos Def!
(Sorry but I just love The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series!)

I love the multi talented Mos and will be in line to see 16 blocks just for him.
But Gary, you didn’t mention the Blackstar album, which was the domb diddy domdit, clearly the the bomb sh*t.
And it wouldn’t surprise me if Mos has a few kids. All the women I know want to get into his pants too…

I love MOS DEF, I planned by vacation around his Broadway schedule during TopDog/Undedog and he was the sweetest to us! But, you cannot leave out his most notorious album to date…the NEW DANGER! No truer words have been spoken

And don’t forget Brown Sugar, a sweet movie that he’s so cute in. And Monster’s Ball. I can’t wait to see Block Party this weekend!
