This second-to-last challenge yielded pretty lackluster results. The remaining four were asked to make evening gowns for Iman, who will wear the winning gown at a "big event." Hmmm, suspiciously vague, no? Like Oscars big event? Or church-soccer-league-banquet big event? Heidi later clarified, saying "red carpet event." (But my church soccer league rolls pretty large, yo!) But at least we saw the return of Austin Scarlett — dressed like Bea Arthur no less (Oh, Dorothy!). But I digress. On to the contestants:
SANTINO The gang learned the secret to the design industry was “Be nice!” But rest assured, Santino didn’t disappoint. Nasty Santino returned, irked by a chalkboard holla Nick left for Daniel to win it all. Santino sniped that Nick was “fickle,” before offering up a Nick imitation. (Not bad, but his Michael Kors is better: "It’s like you guys live in a Renaissance fair!") Later, Santino confessed that he fears he’s becoming that "a–hole who helps everyone." Wait, who exactly has he helped? I’m starting to love-hate Santino again. His dress was terrible; the guy doesn’t know when to stop. Coins coins everywhere!
CHLOE I’m glad Chloe took a chance and changed it up this week. But she failed. "It looks like a bathing suit with some sort of towel wrapped around it,” sniped Tim Gunn. Finally, the perpetual stick in the mud digresses from blase "Make it work" mantras, which he eventually did resume. Indeed, Chloe’s gown looked sleek, but it had a little extra junk in the trunk, didn’t it? The judges also questioned Chloe’s devotion to design. Her whimpering response — "I have the passion" — didn’t exactly convince me.
KARA (pictured) Oh, I kinda forgot she was still on the show. Congrats for that, I suppose. Her new hairstyle really works for her. Her black dress was harmless, although it was priceless when Kara romanticized a bit, calling her design a "blank canvas." Well, her blank canvas was met by my blank stare. Farewell, Kara.
DANIEL Daniel’s luxe midnight-blue gown was the clear winner this week. That said, was it really special? Everyone else’s blew, so I suppose Daniel wins again by default, by playing it safe. And congrats to Heidi for making everyone pick their choices for finals.
So I’m calling it now, and fittingly, I’m playing it safe: Daniel will be our champion.
What do you think? Who will win?

Santino’s dress was very pretty until he started to go all Russian figure-skater on it. Less is more, Santino, less is more.
Daniel’s was again the clear winner, as I like sleek elegant designs. The color was a great choice as well.
Chloe’s was nice, but the back-end didn’t fit, though getting that kind of design exactly right in two days is definitely a challenge.
Kara’s was good from the waste up, but the skirt didn’t work.
I’ll be happy with either Chloe or Daniel. I was disheartened by Kara’s last-minute betrayal of Chloe at the end. Daniel at least explained that CHloe was laready successful and didn’t need it as much as the others.
i actually liked santino’s dress…i thought the top was alittle much but the bottom was very pretty. daniels was beautiful too and i loved the back of chloe’s even though the butt didn’t fit. daniel will win it all, but i did see the collections brought to fashion week and santino’s were absolutely fabulous…
I don’t think Santino will pull it together to make it to the final two, let alone win. And the minute Chloe mentioned she wasn’t sure if she wanted it, there’s now no way she can win. Why would you give the win to someone who obviously doesn’t have enough passion?
I call Daniel to win, easy. I think it’ll be as predictable as Kara’s oust last night was.
I was pretty disgusted to see Santino make it to the finals on the strength of that hideous pile of sparkly crap (question: Does ‘having a distinct point of view’ really count as a good thing if your point of view is ugly?), but poor Kara really did hand it to him on a plate. Plain color, plain design, a fabric that we’ve seen a million times this season and some construction errors- she did nothing to change the judges’ minds about her being the least interesting designer left in the competition.
Really, aside from Santino, I think what happened to all of them was that they got overwhelmed by the importance of the challenge and were so afraid of elimination that they played it ridiculously safe. Daniel only won by elimination- his dress was lovely and stylish, but not at all exciting.
And finally, how dare you call the ever sharp, stylish and sympathetic Tim Gunn a ’stick-in-the-mud’? You’re dead to me, Gunatilaka, dead to me!
Daniel will win this year, unfortunately. Everyone this year is so boooring. Do any of them have a point of view? Where’s someone with Jay’s creativity or Kara Saun’s impeccable design? Take the top 3 from this season and they would have been out so fast last season. Hopefully somebody’ll pull it out for the final runway.
Based on the pictures of their final collections, I think Daniel’s boring collection will win. Chloe and Santino’s problematic collections will be duking it out for 2nd (sadly, I think Chloe’s is even worse than Santino’s). It’s unfortunate because Kara’s collection (they had her make a decoy collection so people wouldn’t find out who was the winner) was my favorite of the Project Runway fashion show and I am sad that she can’t win.
I was annoyed how Kara and Daniel turned on Chloe after they had spent the entire episode whining about Santino.
I have been a Chloe fan up until last night when she was questioning whether she wanted it. For her to voice that out loud, she must be seriously not wanting it. I think she just wants to win more than actually getting the prize package, and that’s not enough for me.
Sorry, but although Santino is a jerk and his outfits are crazy, don’t we all want to see what he makes? It’s someone like this that creates a new fashion trend.
That said, go Daniel!
Santino escapes, ONCE AGAIN. I so didn’t want him to even get a chance at showing a collection. Daniel is good but not as creative as Chloe. ABS (Anyone But Santino)
Santino is a major aHOLE. Period. However, his dress was the most ‘creative’ of the four. Still, I would consider him more an artist than a designer. He does not deserve to win because he is a jerk. I could not see Iman wearing that mess. He must being doing ’something’ to the judges to love him so. He should have been gone last week.
Chloe was such a disapointment to admit she wasn’t sure she wanted to win. Stay in Texas and don’t waste my time then. I so wanted her to win until this week.
Kara. Poor, always confused, Kara. EVERYTHING in her life is so difficult. Her gown, while poorly sewn, was a little more original than Daniel’s or Chloe’s.
Daniel. His gown was pretty. I am now over any emotional investment of who will win, so let it be him and stop me from watching this show.
I loved Chloe’s dress–it’s a shame about the sewing problems. Daniel is my favorite though, and his dress was beautiful (albeit not the most creative), so I was glad he won. I liked Kara’s too, but…boring! If she had done something like what she herself wore to the runway (which was more along the lines of what she did for her Fashion Week collection, I thought), she would have had a much better chance. And I wanted to kick Santino when he ruined the beautiful dress his was before he put all the extra nonsense at the bottom.
Sidenote, I think Daniel and Kara only said that Chloe should be gone because she herself said she didn’t know if she wanted to be there or not. It was probably an uncomfortable situation to be in, so they went with the person who they thought would be least upset if eliminated.
Santino escapes but he won’t win at all. Surprised that Kara lasted as long as she did. Her clothes are just plain boring. Daniel will definitely win. He’s won the most challenges and doesn’t disappoint. Go, Daniel V.!
It’s been evident for a while now that Daniel is the one to beat, but if he and Chloe don’t step it up for the finale, I might have a hard time convincing myself the series is worth it when it returns for its next season. Sure, I’ve had fun… but if the ending is a letdown, goodbye. (that said, I hope they do bring it, because I did enjoy the fun I’ve had with this addiction).
i’m hoping not to jinx daniel (love him), but i would discount santino altogether. he says he watched season one, but has failed to realize he’s THIS season’s wendy pepper. …albiet with some talent.
so there.
I am rooting for Chloe all the way!
I thought Santino’s dress could have been great, but he did what he always does, and turned it into a joke (which Nina called, and rightly so; and I’m so glad Michael Kors really, finally chewed him out, not that it will make much difference). The paillettes could have looked great, he just put them too high on the dress, and they made the model look hippy (which is an accomplishment in itself), and he should have left the them off the bodice completely. Whatever. Once Nick was gone, there was really no doubt in my mind that Santino would make it to fashion week.
Chloe’s dress…um…great idea, horrible execution. She’s lucky that the judges knew it was out of the ordinary for her. I have a feeling her line is going to be beautifully made. And I don’t blame her for second-guessing her desire to actually win. There’s a lot of pressure, and she’s a sensible person; but, as she said, she put up with everything to get to the final four.
I never expected Kara to get this far, so good for her. I would have loved to see her dress in a different fabric, and with a better sewn hem.
Daniel’s dress was nice. It was boring, but it was nice, and it was well-made. And he won. Surprise surprise.
I think it’s kinda funny that the judges were underwhelmed by all the dresses. The same thing happened with the Grammy dress challenge last season.
I think it’s obvious Daniel will win. I actually liked his dress and didn’t think it was boring. It was simple, but, I thought, stunning. Though not surprised, I’m hugely disappointed that Santino is in the final three. Different for the sake of being different is not necessarily a good thing. His dress was just a mess. I actually liked Kara’s though I agree it doesn’t express her style. And while true she had some sewing errors, they were no worse than Santino’s from last week.
I was a little disheartened by Chloe’s enthusiasm, but, I’d rather hear someone take the time to question whether or not they really want the fame than someone who wants to win solely because of it.
Santino has more lives than an alley cat. He can’t sew, his designs are garish at best and he doesn’t think anything about the clients he is supposed to be designing for. Yeah he’s creative, but he needs to understand fashion isn’t always about what the designer wants. I could understand it when Nina said his gown was editorial, but Iman wouldn’t be caught dead wearing that thing on the red carpet, unless she was performing with a circus somewhere.
As for Kara…I grew to like her the past couple of weeks when she seemed to step it up a notch in the makeover challenge, but it was definitely time for her to go. Didn’t she already design a black dress just a few weeks ago? We all know Daniel will win, it’s a foregone conclusion. He’s talented, he’s consistent, he’s young, his whole career is ahead of him; the judges will reward him for it.
But my favorite from day one has been Chloe. She’s conducted herself in a classy way through this entire process, and with the exception of this last challenge (which I admit, was a complete disaster in terms of execution) she’s brought it, every single week. So what if she doubted if she really wanted to win…hasn’t anyone been in a high-pressure situation before and second guessed themselves at some point? Don’t hold that against her, she’s just being human, which makes her even more likable in my book. I hope her collection kicks everyone’s ass.
Gino: When Nina referred to Santino’s dress as being ‘editorial’, she meant it would show well in an ad/edgy fashion spread in a magazine. many items are displayed in editorial pages of high fashion mags such as W that aren’t appropriate for a red-carpet outing where non-fashion folk will be viewing and judging them.
KARA needs a fitting consult ASAP. Look at all those “smiles” – her clothes are waaaayyyy to tight for her bod
Daniel is a safe bet to take this thing… his craftsmanship is undoubtable, but more than that, he has so much poise for a guy of his age in that business. He is very confident — something that Diana never was, and they are about the same age. Agreed on Santino’s dress, although I think they gave him praise when they called his dress the “most editorial.”
Good bye Kara! Too bad Nick went before you did, girlie:

Daniel will win.
Daniel is hardly a “safe bet” to win it all. Winning the most challenges is pretty much irrelevant–Kara Saun won the most last season, yet Jay won the overall competition (I don’t think he won any of the challenges leading up to Olympus Fashion Week). Daniel has done some nice work, but you can tell that he’s fresh out of design school.
I feel like saying Santino will win only because no one else thinks he has much of a chance. I do feel he’s the most “creative,” but even I wouldn’t wear most of his dresses (and I’ll wear almost any dress except maybe the one Austin was wearing in the party scene).
Daniel is probably the safest bet to win, but something tells me Chloe is going to get it. If the judges are basing their judgments on the quality of the work, her ambivalence toward winning won’t make a difference. But is that quality the most important factor here? I doubt it, not on a TV show.
I was glad that Santino made it to Olympus week because if any of then deserved to go (from this week only) it was definitely him. I agree with the judges when they said that this was the week to definitely not be conservative and this was definitely the week to “wow” the judges.
To me none of the designs were what the challenge asked for . … remember the challenge was to “ design a evening gown that must represent the collection that they show at Olympus week. “ To me it was definitely a let down except for Santino, even if the dress was a bit “iffy”, I still have to stay his was the definitive of what the challenged called for. I agree with the judges that the rest of them “kinda choked on the challenge BUT I do have to give it to Santino because he did have “ a point of view”..it was like Michaek Kors’ said .. It’s almost like you’re saying, ‘I’m smarter than all of you. I know you’re all going to say there’s too much s–t all over this dress, but I’m going to do it anyway and prove my point!’”
I would have liked Santino’s gown a lot better if he has left the sequins off but then again, it was the sequins that made it have the point of view.
The other dresses were wearable but come on.. At this stage of the competition they were too safe. I do believe that Chloe and Kara choked. The back of Chloe’s dress was awesome.. But it didn’t fit. The bottom part of the dress only emphasized that the butt part of the dress was wrong. Then it was the way that she got a but upset when the others said that they didn’t think she should be apart of the final three… Come on Chloe when you tell people that you are not sure that you want to be there let alone win what else are they to think .. But you don’t want to be there and you don’t want to win. Then there was Kara, I want to just shake her and say.. “SNAP OUT OF IT!“… don’t use black!!! I have to finally agree with something Nina said, I could not believe that Kara was a textile designer, she didn’t use any color, no prints, only black. As for Daniel, his gown was totally safe. It was blue, it was v-necked, it was just ok, it was wearable… by anyone. I doubt that Iman liked having to wear that dress to the “red carpet” event that she attended.
I would not put any money on Daniel V. winning the competition, remember last year, Kara Saun, won more challenges, and in the end they choose Jay over her. Remember how Wendy beat Austin Scarlet and he was clearly the best designer there.
If Santino makes it to the final two, I can definitely see him winning.
I’ve seen the photos of all four’s collection from that site and the one thing that sorta strikes me is how similar are the colors but after viewing them and then looking at Santino’s designs from the show all I can say is .. “he’s got talent because clearly he designed some great items that really gave Daniel V. and Chloe a run for their monies.
The disclaimer at the end of Project Runway says that the producer’s input determines who stays and goes in addition to the judge’s scores. That’s why Santino has lasted all season. He’s the “bad boy” that every reality show thinks it needs to have. So much for the integrity of the competition.
Chloe’s fashion week collection is the best of all. I’ve loved Daniel V. but Chloe should win if the judges are honest.
After watching the most recent episode, why did Chloe pick Diana to help her make the 14th design for Olympus Fashionweek. It was obvious Daniel V. was going to pick Nick to help him, and Santino didn’t like anyone else left in the bunch except Andrae, so I thought Chloe were to pick Kara however, Kara stabbed her in the back anyways. You can find photo leaks of Olympus Fashionweek of the three designers from http://www.newyorkmetro.com but anyways, I don’t think Daniel is going to win with his fashion line. It’s nice but not creative. You have to agree with me on this one, his designs arent anything out of the ordinary. You can find similar designs on fifth avenue from marc jacobs, etc. Santino and Chloe’s are truly creative and innovative with different takes. Daniel is obviously fresh out of fashion school but his fashion line is just like any other designers right now. But Santino takes risks & chances, and Chloe’s design is on the mark and unusual. That’s what is important.
