Is it too early to be nostalgic for 2002? We’ll see this fall when American Idol goes into syndication. For those who find one winter season of Idol a year isn’t enough, American Idol Rewind will debut in September. Rewind will revisit earlier seasons, but with episodes that Idol‘s producers say have been both ”streamlined” and ”enhanced” with previously unseen footage and backstage trivia. Could be interesting — maybe we’ll all look back and say: ”We knew it all along” (Kelly Clarkson) or ”What were we thinking?” (Justin Guarini).

Ok I LOVE American Idol and do not miss an episode, but I think this is a surefire way to kill the show. AI is constantly praised on how it only runs from January to May so it doens’t wear out it’s welcome like other monster hits (the most used example is Who Wants to be a Millionaire). The show also sounds a lot like the Best/Worst DVD that they just put out… And another thing, Justin Guarini really wasn’t that bad… if you go back and look at his performances he’s actually quite good, it’s just his bad luck with his album and boats (and hair?) that makes us laugh at him now… Not that he’s my favorite but I’m just sayin’…
leave Justin Guarini alone!! EW has devoted enough ink in previous issues to disparaging this talented young man. His album is actually better than that dreck that Ruben Studdard (winner Season 2) put out…
EW says negative thinks about Justin Guarini becuase a lot of people agree with them – me for one. Anyway, back to the subject, if they did add more to the original episodes, it would probably be interesting. but I think, for me, most of the fun was the excitement of hearing the performances for the first time, judging, calling in, and the suspense of seeing who will get voted off. They can’t really recreate that, but it has probably been long enough for us to forget most of what happened, as well as a lot of contestants names. P.S. just out of curiosity, who is everyone’s least favorite AI contestant? Mine- Carmen Rasmussen
In response to Melanie’s question, my least favorite AI contestant is most definitely Corrie Clark. I hated him from the very beginning of Season 2, way before the whole Paula incident. My other least favorites are John Stevens, George Huff, Scott Savol, and Constantine. I also grew to dislike Diana DeGarmo and Jasmine Trias (especially after they somehow got further than Jennifer Hudson and LaToya London).
i think the reruns are a good idea. i REALLY want to see kelly sing “natural woman” again, when she hit that note!?!?! that was when i said to myself, “this show is really gonna be great”. i’m looking forward to it, it won’t create over-saturation because it will just show us the differences of the contestants over the years, hey how about an american idol on-demand channel, 24 hours of william hung AND the likes of kelly and fantasia, priceless.
I’m looking forward to “Rewind”! There are particular episodes I would love to see again, like the finale of season 4. Does anyone know if they are going to put each season on DVD, like so many other television shows?
we need american idol on demand
