Kathy Griffin (at right) tells the New York Post she’s miffed about being dropped from E!’s Golden Globes coverage; she says she only found out she’d been axed because her lawyer called the cable channel and asked if she’d be needed for the show, which is in about three weeks. She said the network told her not to take it personally, but that she’ll understand once E! reveals the secret name of its new red-carpet hire.
Meanwhile, today’s Variety announces that E! has hired Ryan Seacrest (like he doesn’t have enough on his plate) to anchor its daily newscast — and to walk the red carpet. This has to add insult to injury for Griffin; some will remember that three years ago at the American Music Awards, they were presenting together when Seacrest (at left) embarrassed her by ripping open her blouse on live TV.
Now, I don’t mind the notion of Seacrest as E!’s news anchor, though I guess he’ll have to let Giuliana DePandi cover all the American Idol stories in order to avoid the appearance of conflicts of interest. But on the red carpet? He’s so obsequious that he’ll make former E! carpet queen Star Jones look like, well, Kathy Griffin. Besides, Seacrest has a deal in place to replace the ailing Dick Clark as the host of the annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve (they’re splitting the duty this year), the same Clark who produces the Globes telecast. Think Seacrest is going to do anything to irk the icon who’s named him his heir apparent? If E!’s not going to keep Griffin, can’t they at least find someone irreverent to walk the red carpet with Seacrest? Help ‘em out and offer your suggestions below.

if ryan seacrest hosts the red carpet on e!, it will actually be a blessing. now i can just watch the tv guide channel because joan and melissa are much better on the red carpet. here’s hopping that kathy will join the ladies. she’s hysterical.
and although this is sad news, we should actually be happy today – realityblurred reports her bravo reality show, my life on the d list, will be back for a second season! horray!!
E! wants the celebrities to come toward their cameras, not run from them. Obviously they are not going to stick with Griffin. How counterproductive would that be?
I love Kathy and her humor, but she has to face up to the fact that she has rendered herself a pariah for these suck-up kind of jobs. And if she wants to stay true to her own self, she needs to come clean with what happened to her and Matt! How could anyone throw Matt out? Was he a secret pervert or something? That’s the only possible thing because that guy was as devoted as a dog to her.

Kathy was dumped for Ryan Seacrest? For shame E!!!! Kathy has more entertainment in her little finger than Seacrest has in his whole body. Gross!! Like we need to see him on another show? Pulease.
I loved Kathy on the red carpet! Especially the year she humorously “reported” that Dakota Fanning was in rehab! Even my 68 year old mother loved her. And I’m upset about Guiliana too; I thought she did a good job anchoring E News, even though it wasn’t broadcast live it was before.
I would sooner have Jeffrey Dahmer do the hosting than Kathy Griffin. Heck, I’d sooner have Charles Manson do it than Kathy Griffin.
Kathy Griffin needs to be on every red carpet since she makes it entertaining to watch. Seacrest is so boring and uninteresting, he needs to be given less jobs and I hope E! ends up with lower ratings than last year. Does E! like hiring horrible people like Star Jones and Ryan Seacrest and fire the good people? They need to stick with Kathy.
Kathy Griffin is absolutely the funniest person EVER. I simply can’t get enough of her. The only reason I was going to watch the Golden Globes Red Carpet, was just to get my fix on her humor.

I’m still looking for the person’s e-mail at E! that I need to contact to complain! I love Kathy – SHE IS FUNNY! Any celebrity that can’t realize that when you’re in front of the camera with a comedian, they’re going to make you look good, they’re going to make you look funny too. Unless you have no sense of humor whatsoever and you’re so stuck on yourself that you can’t imagine your life being humorous. Seriously, if Kathy asked me the last time I ate, i’d have a witty comeback. She sets people up with her questions and gives them a chance to be funny too!
I will definitely miss Kathy at the Globes, but i’m hoping that we can get E! to see the light and get her on the blood-red carpet for the Oscars.
She will not be on with Joan and Melissa, mainly because I don’t think Joan can stand anyone funnier than herself.

Why in the world would E ever choose Ryan over Kathy?? Kathy would be the best hands down! She is funny, smart, quick, and REAL! Ryan on the other hand- is the exact opposite of the above listed attributes. Maybe someone should distract him with lip gloss and mascara so that Kathy can take over ;o)
