'Housewives': A new couple in town?

Here’s some good news: Word on the street is that Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry wants William H. Macy and Laura Leighton, real-life spouses of series stars Felicity Huffman and Doug Savant, to sign on as guest stars. But the New York Post’s Starr Report makes it sound as if Tom and Lynette might be headed for dueling extramarital affairs — which I think is a dreadful, dreadful, dreadful idea. True, Lynette may be one of the most manipulative, scheming characters on TV, but having the Scavos turn into Cheaty McCheaters wouldn’t be true to their function as Wisteria Lane only vaguely happy couple.

I’d rather see Macy and Leighton star as houseguests from hell, maybe some trashy cousins of Tom’s who come for a long weekend, then refuse to vacate the premises.

How would you utilize the talented duo to help revitalize the a show that — in my mind — still hasn’t gotten its Season 1 groove back?

Remember last season, when Tom’s cheating dad came to visit and Tom told him that he’d done something really bad in the past, and if Lynette found out, she’d never forgive him? Did they ever bring that up again? I don’t think so. I think Laura Leighton is going to be the mistake Tom made. Maybe William H. Macy will play her insecure/domineering/insensitive/abusive husband. That would open up a new storyline for two actors who are great together and never get enough scenes together.

I like the bad cousins idea.

I think Laura Leighton should be linked to the big “mistake” Tom made that will crush Lynette. I think Macy should play her husband. Perhaps he was in the dark too and found out – and he is tracks down Lynette to tell her about it. (Other spouse should know too kind of thing).
If they really wanted to throw in a soapy twist, they could make the child that Laura Leighton had with her husband (William H. Macy) actually Tom’s child from the affair. Thus, Lynette now has another step-ish child to expand her broad.
What with Lynette possibly leaving Tom over an affair and Gabrielle about to be single for a while, all of our Desperate Housewives are about to be desperately single!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Laura Leighton and William H. Macy! It would be awesome to see them as guest stars on DH, but I don’t want Tom and Lynette to turn into cheaters. Do something different.

I’m not sure how to use them just yet… but I don’t want Tom’s mistake to involve an affair (unless it’s a gay affair in homage to ‘Melrose Place’). But the fact is, the other four have had their cheating: Gabrielle herself and now flirtations for her husband with the nun; Bree felt guilty with George because of Rex, who in turn had gone to a prostitute for his fetish; and Susan’s then-husband cheated on her before the show started. And they already are going to have Tom and Gabrielle kiss… enough! Come up with some original plots!
If Tom’s mistake could somehow caused the ruin of William H Macy’s character though, I think that would be cool. Macy plays down-on-his-luck so well (‘The Cooler’). And I think Laura could play Lynnette’s sister from hell (or possibly, Susan’s newfound half-sister)… who then has a flirtation with the neighborhood plumber.

Putting Laura Leighton back on my TV screen would be enough to make me interested in this show again. Casting Macy would be icing on the cake. I feel like I’m watching out of obligation rather than enjoyment this season.
