Trailer Blazer: 'X3'

Categories: Movie Trailers, X-Men

10115__angel_lI wouldn’t care if you told me it’s directed by the guy who made Glitter (though it’s actually the much-maligned Brett Ratner), the new teaser for X3 looks pretty darn enticing. True, there’s not a whole lot to go on, but the mere sight of Wolverine, Storm (sporting a fetching new ‘do), and Jean Grey (or should I say Phoenix?) makes me forget there’s icky, gray slush on the ground, and fast-forwards me right into summer blockbuster season. Not only that, but the awesome sight of Six Feet Under’s Ben Foster (completely unrecognizable here, left) unfurling his wings as Angel is enough to counteract the fact that my least favorite character, ho-hum Cyclops, is back for the third installment in the X-Men series, due May 26, 2006.

But that’s just my opinion. What’s your take on the first look at X3?

The thing that I was curious most about was how the Beast and the Juggernaut were going to look. So far, the Beast looks pretty good… I’m not so sure about the Juggernaut. There seems to be a couple glimpses of a what appears to be a body suit that looks entirely unbelievable. And the helmet… not so good. Reminds me of Man-At-Arms.

The teaser trailer for X3, though it cannot portend the quality of the film itslef, was superior to the one for Superman Returns. The former hints at the larger arc of the plot while the latter does not at all, apart from the title. The X3 teaser, despite the fan antipathy towards Ratner, also has more sumptuous shots than the Returns teaser. Angel unfurling his wings and Wolvie smoking his signature stogie with a fireball exploding in the night sky behind him look phenomenal. Let us hope that X3 in its entirety, and Superman Returns for that matter, will both be incredible films.

The beast looks really cool, you cannot recognise Kelsey Grammer at all (which is good because his voice is what is needed most for this part). I also heard Multilple Man will be in this one as well, although there are’nt appearances of him in the clip. I guess they weren’t kidding when they said alot of characters (new and old) will be in this one. Although the clip was very good it did not blow me away, then again it was only 1min 30sec long (and we all know it’s the story and the action itself that matters the most in the end product).

Who was Ben Foster on SFU?

  • Steve

Does anyone know if Gambit will make an appearance in X3?

  • jmsiperly

Ben Foster was Russell – Claire’s art school boyfriend

  • professor74

What I like is that Magneto’s army has grown (with Pyro in the forefront). Beast looks good, especially in a suit. I am excited. I just REALLY hope the story is good.

  • Nitusa

Good God does Ben Foster look amazingly HOT!!! Can’t wait to see the movie, and all the hotties!!!!

  • Joel

I liked the images of the trailer, liked the voiceover, hated the editing. It was too frantic and distracting. I’m definitely looking forward to this one, now. Most of my fears have subsided.

  • djm

Wow – wasn’t Russell this mousey kind of fey character? The dude in this photo looks buff. Cool. I haven’t seen any of the X-men movies, but Halle does look fierce in the clips I’ve seen.

  • Laura

I have to admit, I thought this movie was really going to suck. But after seeing this trailer, I’m cautiously optimistic because that trailer was pretty darn cool! Hopefully the story and dialogue will back up the visuals…

  • Kyle

I wouldn’t worry about Cyclops being in the movie.
    ****spoiler*****
Watch the trailer and look at the mild clues to figure out what I’m talking about. It’s all there for you to piece together.

  • Julia

Whoa. That trailer certainly got me excited for X3- mind you, Brett Ratner or no, I’d have been first in line for this next installment of one of the 2 best superhero franchises currently in progress- the other being the Spiderman movies.

  • Ryan

So far it looks good. Wolverine and Colossus “fastball special”, Storm flying, the Golden Gate bridge destruction. Is it May yet?

  • Jenn

    where the hell is Gambit?!

  • Kyle

Yeah it’s sad that this will probably be the end of the X-Men franchise. And least for a while according to Fox, and we don’t get to see Gambit.
I doubt it, but maybe he could show up in the Wolverine Spin-off

  • Brad

OMG where did you get that picture of Ben Foster as Angel? /drool.

  • Thad

Jean Grey aka Phoenix looks good, I think she is a strong character. Beast is just in there for looks, just like Nightcrawler from the last flick amd Mystique. Put a freaky blue dude (or chick) in that doesn’t look human. Angel is the best kept secret along with Colossus. I had hoped these would have bigger parts.
Magneto AGAIN!? Why can’t we get another villian? Take a note from Spider-Man please. Good trailer though.

  • Nemo Niente

Ratner did not make Glitter, it was Vondie Curtis-Hall. Ratner directed Red Dragon, which was ok.

  • movieguy77

I’m in agreement with the above comment concerning the Superman Returns. Hello…yawn…Smallville has already covered the “he was but a boy from Kansas” first act pretty well…and I’m sorry…new guy looks like someone wearing a really good Superman costume at a Halloween party…not the Man of Steel. Would it have been so horrible to let the Smallville team transition to the big screen with an established (and growing) fan base? I’ll take Spidey and X-Men 3 anyday…Warners not think so good sometimes me think. How can one studio go so right with the reinvention of Batman and then blow it with the reinvention of Supes?

  • Rishi Laloo

    I CAN’T WAIT FOR X3

  • Marty

Kelsey Grammer looks Baaad-asss as Beast. Not a trait I ever dreamed I’d ever attribute to Frasier Crane.

  • Fat Free Milk

Kelsey Grammar As The Beast looks like a blue Liberace.

  • Megan

It kinda makes me angry that people don’t like Cyclops in the movies because in the comics he is such an awesome character. It really bothers me that Wolverine is shown more as the hero in the movies than Cyclops who is really the hero. Oh well, you still wont be able to keep me away from the theaters come may.

  • bryan

Alright finally x3 is here. but where is gambit? if he was in x3, i would cheer. cause he looks so fit. but i guess angel will do. plus i’m looking out for the hotties.
if there are a few i will boo. and after that i will eat cookies
