Overheard at today’s PopWatch competitive quarters tournament, fondue party, and Yankee swap:
Editor1: so, did you read gillian’s review of "nip/tuck"?
Editor2: i did! D+ — ouch! It’s funny — the only reason why i started watching it was because she told me it was great! and now she’s trashing it!
Editor1: well, it has definitely changed — even you say not for the better
Editor2: still, i’m embarrassed to admit to her that i LOVE it! i need to get the first two seasons on dvd so i know the whole backstory
Editor1: that paper-bag scene last week made me want to boil my television so it wouldn’t catch anything
Editor2: i feel that way every week — it’s what keeps me coming back!
Editor1: yeah, you’re totally obsessed. you talk about the show in every story meeting, like all crazy and wide-eyed: "so this TERRIBLE, AWFUL thing happened last night on ‘nip/tuck’ — let me tell you ALL ABOUT IT in vivid, gory detail…"
Editor2: i know; it’s a problem
Editor1: i remember the good ol’ days — when the son was circumcising himself
Editor2: ew! (gotta get those dvds)
Editor1: i know — i have to go boil myself now
Editor2: there’s hot oil in the fondue pot
Editor1: perfect!

Your review is dead on and so typical of a third season, replacement writer, ruin a series type of thing. See the third season of Six Feet Under, Felicity and the Shield. I am such a big fan of this show and such a cheerleader that now I feel embarrassed that I ever did. First two seasons were stellar and top notch head turners!! The acting and plot twist were fresh and on point. This season is pitiful and non-sensical. Sean and the witness protection arc, puh-leeze. Matt makes me sick and where is the daughter??? Tristan and Kimber and detective? I would have rather seen Tristan make out with Bruno Campos after the slasher incident in season two. The charcters are so out of sync. You know the drill, have a great first season, get lots of dough to do the second season, and bi-pass on the third season because is time do a movie or start a new series. David E. Kelly are you listening? I hope this doesn’t happen to LOST, but its enevitable isn’t it?
Thad, I completely agree with everything you said. Nip/Tuck has definitely gone down the drain. I too would brag to my friends about how great the show was, and now I am so embarassed. The story line with the detective was so bogus. First it wasn’t believable that a serial killer expert would be called in from London. Don’t we have those in the US? And then to have her get involved with Kimber and Christian, that was over the top. I won’t even get started on the witness protection storyline, or julia being okay with matt’s white supremacist girlfriend.
Still a better show than Desperate Houseviwes !!!!!!!
Still the best adult-themed drama on TV !!!!!
I’m still holding out hope that The Carver storyline will end up being worth it, but I’ll agree with the uncertainty of where the series is going these days. It’s not going to keep me from tuning in, because I’m not ready to give up on it yet. But something about the choppiness of the storylines is wearing on me this season. Like, when was the last time we saw Kit? Or Annie? And do any of them, plus Matt, really add anything to the storyline anymore? At this point only the finale will tell… and like I say, I’m hanging on to my optimism. Murphy is still my hero.
nip/tuck has got me torn. one episode i love it, the other i hate it. it all comes down to MJ. If he’s in it, it’s a bad episode. quintin has got to be the carver..COME ON. MJ go find your true love ava and dump that racist redneck.. could her dad be the carver? i can’t see why else they would throw that loop in there…
OMG!!! I just watched the finally of nip/tuck and it was awsome!
