Who hasn't guested on 'The Simpsons'?

9438__wolfe_lSee, we read! Or, well, I’m sure we intended to read books by authors Tom Wolfe (left), Gore Vidal, Michael Chabon, and Jonathan Franzen at some point. But now we don’t have to — since they’ll all be imparting their compositional wit and wisdom as guest stars on The Simpsons. Yes, the show’s producers have somehow located the four boldface names who have yet to stop by Springfield. The episode won’t air for a year, giving us time to actually read all their award-winning books.

The L.A. Times‘ Steven Barrie-Anthony wins best-sound-bite honors for getting Chabon’s father on the phone for this hilarious tidbit: "Robert Chabon said that he always expected Michael to win a Pulitzer (which he did in 2001 for The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay). ‘And I still think he’s going to win the National Book Award,’ said the Kansas City, Kan., pediatrician. ‘But him being on The Simpsons is beyond my wildest dreams. You envision certain successes for your children, but this kind of success — I never envisioned.’"

So, who’s left for "this kind of success"? Who would you like to see guest on The Simpsons?

Is it really an honor to be on The Simpsons in this day and age? Honestly, what was once television’s greatest show has simply devolved into a wheezing, gasping husk of what it used to be.
Still…who hasn’t been on the Simpsons that I’d like to see? Let’s get Kevin Smith on there! He’s stated that it would be his greatest achievement in “An Evening with Kevin Smith”

I’m a firm believer that the Simpson’s episodes featuring guest stars as “themselves” are usually weak. Pandering to the celebs and trying to fit them into the groove of the episode = awkward storytelling. Their dialog delivery is usually stilted and about equal to their comedic ability. “Phoning it in” is de rigueur with Simpson’s guests. And when they stack the episode with a sports team or a rock band where every member has to get an equal number of lines! Argh! “Don’t even get me started!” I’m sure smart agents see The Simpson’s, and the other guest-star mosh pit series like Will & Grace (the worst offender) as being a great “get” for their clients and networks love to plug the guest stars in on-air promo spots. I know it all makes good business sense in every way except what counts most — a quality show. Imagine Seinfeld with “guest-stars”. There were very few that appeared as themselves, and when they did, they were beautifully woven into the storyline (i.e. Bette Midler in Rochelle! Rochelle! The Musical — pure gold!) THE BEST SIMPSON’S EPISODES ARE THE GUEST-FREE EPISODES!

Actually, Michael Jackson (although not Madonna) DID guest star in the second or third season…as a mental patient who believed he was Michael Jackson. However, there was a fake name used because of legal problems. But it was actually Michael Jackson.

Has Sean Penn ever done a Simpsons episode? Because that could be fantastic.

I’m not sure who I’d like to be a guest star on the Simpsons, but I can tell you my favorite guest star was when ‘Nsync was on for the boy band episode. “I can’t believe I’m meeting Milhouse. Word!” Sad, I know!

Donald Trump giving lessons to Moe on how to better run his bar would be great!
How about Bill O’Reilly and George Clooney running for the mayor of Springfield (with Dennis Kucinich as the “lame duck” independent candidate???). After Mayor Quimby gets impeached for invading Shelbyville because they have TMD’s (Trinkets of Mass Destruction!), of course…

How about Jon Stewart and Tucker Carlson going at it a la Itchy and Scratchy.

Macgyver is going to be a guest star, I think this season.
