So Avril Lavigne just got cast in her first movie role, a small part in the Richard Gere-Claire Danes drama The Flock. And while I have to give credit to the snarly Canadian for resisting the urge to make her acting debut in some ghastly star vehicle about a punk-pop teen’s rise to fame, I’d be lying if I said I was in any way excited about her thespian aspirations. For my $10, I’d much prefer to see tragically underappreciated diva Anastacia up on the silver screen. With her big, brassy personality, she’d be a natural — not to mention it might kick-start a singing career that’s been cursed by the ”big in Europe” label.

Mariah Carey! She should star in a movie loosely based on her life! That’d be AWESOME!
I doubt she has any acting chops (or punk-rocker chops for that matter), but Avril gets better looking as she gets older. Hopefully she won’t turn into another Spears/Hilton/Dunst/Reid in her 20s. Considering she hangs out with that crew, it’ll be hard not to.
Right now, I am just thanking God that MTV never found anyone to write a script for “Skater Boy” — they were actually approaching people about that.

I don’t think singers should be taking away roles from actors and actresses, especially the ones that are trying so hard to make it into the biz.
I have to agree with you, I think Anastacia would be great in a movie. She is so much more talented than so many of the artists popular in the Sates. She deserves to be HUGE!

Latin pop beauty Thalia should definately try to make her way into movies. She’s drop dead gorgeous, has great charisma, and already has a solid acting track record in spanish television programs. I can see her being perfectly cast in a romamtic drama “a la Reese Witherspoon”.
She too has been cursed by the “succesful everywhere else except in the states” label given to people like Robbie Williams, Anastacia, etc.
Just please Thalia, if you ever decide to do a movie avoid the JLo route!!

I just want to say thank you for even bringing Anastacia to people’s attention. She is amazing and her (non)popularity is frustrating given that unlike other truely great, but tragically ignored-by-America pop stars (such as Robbie Williams), she is actually American.
