Julian Sands (left), Peter Weller, and JoBeth Williams are all joining the fifth-season cast of 24, reports Variety, whose article includes some minor spoilers about the characters and the season’s plot setup. (Skip the rest of this post if you don’t want to know.)
Sands will play an evil Eastern European billionaire, Vladamir Bierko. Weller will play Christopher Henderson, the mentor who hired Kiefer Sutherland’s Jack Bauer as a counterterrorism agent 10 years ago, while Williams will play Mrs. Henderson. They join Sean Astin (playing a new CTU agent) and Jean Smart among the new hires.
The new season is set 18 months after the end of Season 4, and it finds the presumed-dead Jack living a new life with Diane (Connie Britton) and her son Derek (Brady Corbet). Also returning are Carlos Bernard, Kim Raver, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Gregory Itzin, Roger Cross, and James Morrison. The two-part premiere is Jan. 15 and 16. Set your DVRs now.

While I still wonder how many bad days Jack can have, I’m glad he’s coming back for more crime and punishment.
