Before ”the others” showed up on Lost, there was The Others, the 2001 haunted-house chiller starring Nicole Kidman. Hey, wanna act out our favorite scene?
”What have you done with my daughter?!”
”Are you mad? I am your daughter.”
And… scene! Creepy!
Anyhow, I bring up The Others for a reason; it’s one of 10 movies featured in The Guardian’s groovy quiz about movies with surprise endings. (Thanks to Movie City News for the link.) Of course, if you’re one of those folks who covers their ears when friends start discussing The Sixth Sense (catch it on cable, already, will ya?!), be warned there’s spoilers aplenty hidden in the multiple-choice answers. I scored a 9 out of 10, while the blogfather keeps crowing about getting every question right.
How’d you fare? Holla back, brainiacs!

I hadn’t seen “The Third Man” in a very long time, and I forgot what happened there. But some of the answers are too easy. After the real anwer, the other choices seem too preposterous to choose.
I’ve never seen the Third Man so I got that one wrong, but all the others right! I love movies with twists!
10 for 10…although my Mainland English is a little rough, until today I had never heard a “sled” called a “sledge.” Great choice of movies though!
I got 9 instead of 10 — oops, I’m one of the 5 people in America who has never seen “The Others”. So I guessed – and guessed poorly.
A 9 here as well… guess it’s time to rent ‘The Third Man.’
10 out of 10…but, I’ve never seen the Third Man. And just for the record, I hated the ending of the Village!
I got a 10 out of 10 but that is becuase I have the worst luck in finding out movie twists before seeing the actual movies! I accidentally read the ending to the “Sixth Sense” in a movie magazine; “The Usual Suspects” would have been so much more thrilling if Roger Ebert had not spilled the beans when Kevin Spacey won his Academy Award; and, I have known the “Victor/Victoria” surprise of the “Crying Game” for many years and still have yet to watch the movie. Oh well.
A perfect ten, can I get a job at the video store now?
This quiz is too easy – I scored 10 out of 10 and I haven’t even seen all the films…
Me too, Conrad. I’ve seen Sixth Sense, Usual Suspects and Citizen Kane.
You cannot say you have the worst luck finding out movie twists if you didn’t see the movie after the first week. If you didn’t see Usual Suspects by the time the Oscars came out, that’s on you not Roger Ebert. I got 9 out of 10, too only because I haven’t seen The Third Man like everyone else.
It’s the Guardian, so we expect such sloppiness as putting an apostrophe in Howards End. But the reveal in The Crying Game occurs, what, halfway through? Hardly the shocking ending.
10 of 10. I hadn’t seen Third Man, but it seemed the most resonable “twist”.
10 out of 10. The only difficult thing was remembering “the Third Man”, which I haven’t seen in years. BTW, I also HATED the ending of “The Village”, mostly because I figured it out a few minutes into the movie.
9 out of 10. never saw _the village_.
