Rumor of the day: According to New York Daily News gossip columnists Rush & Molloy (third item), the makers of the upcoming Dreamgirls movie have cast a star of the third season of American Idol in the key role of Effie, but it’s Jennifer Hudson, not Fantasia. Ms. Barrino had the support of some big names, including the already-cast Jamie Foxx, but the Daily News quotes Hudson as saying, ”They said they wanted me. They said I was born for this.” Just for the record, I called this one six months ago. And I am telling you, I am not gloating.

I read that this morning in the paper and thought of you making that comment. If it is true– it is perfect casting. Jennifer Hudson would be fantastic!
I think anyone even vaguely familiar with Dreamgirls knew that Jennifer was born for that role even while she was competing on the show. Her voice and her “diva-ness” are a perfect fit.
I would still prefer to hear Fantasia sing over Jennifer for most music. Unfortunately, she’s being “handled” by too many people. She needs somebody who understands good songwriting guiding her career…and there’s no evidence that she has anyone like that now.
Congrats to Jennifer! Now lets see if she does something unique or if she’s there to be a cheap imitation of Ms. Holliday.
Sounds good…I’m hoping Frenchie will get back on the scene soon, too.
BOth are fine i guesss. But Fantasia needed this… I havent heard anything about her in a while and she won american idol just last year….
Fantasia would have been great, Jennifer will definitely do well in the role. But it really irritates me when people mistakenly say that Fantasia’s music isn’t successful. Fantasia’s album did and continues to do well now. Her album is terrific, with 3 great songs getting airplay and her music is still being played on Black (hip-hop, R&B) radio. Sorry if that’s not your demographic.
Go Jennifer!
We love you here in Tallahassee Fl!
Hello??? Could there be anyone else besides Jennifer Hudson to play Effie???? She is the most amazing choice for this role!! She is BY FAR the most amazing, powerful, and emotional singer in the universe! I am so happy some justice has been done for her after the suspicious and moronic voting ousting her from Idol, to be rivaled only by the other catastrophic voting outcome of the last presidential election. Go Jenny!! It’s Jenny’s World now!
I am so unhappy with the choice of Jennifer Hudson as Effie i have done that show 4 times and Fantasia should have been chosen i will not see the movie if Jennifer Hudson is in it
good don’t go…more room for me to go and watch…like your not going is gonna make the movie a bust…you’ve done it 4 times? wow, if you were any good you’d think you would have been asked to be in the movie…well you weren’t and you sound bitter…hahahahaha
