I have been to Genesis concerts from 1981 through 1987 and everyone of them was great!!!!! It was post Peter but never once was there a bad show. I have had the opportunity to see Phil perform Supper’s Ready and I must say, he does it trememdously. I love PG Genesis as well as PC Genesis. I just had the opportunity to see The Musical Box and they were fantastic but they are not GENESIS. In my eyes, Genesis can not do any wrong. I loved them with Gabriel and I love them with Phil (and I love Phil too) so Genesis coming back on tour has me extremely excited and I CAN’T WAIT Or is that I Can’t Dance?????
I have seen Genesis since there first American show at Lincoln Center(Avery Fischer Hall) way,way back. It was a benefit Christmas Show for 102.7 WNEW FM. I was blown away ! I prefer the original Five but if I cannot have that, then I will be happy to have the Then There Were Three version. Just as good but in a different way ! Never a disappointing show and I have been to all of their Tri State performance since day 1. Let’s enjoy the shows this time around and whom knows, maybe there will be a next time with the Original 5 !!!
There will always be a beginning – Genesis !
Hi all,
lots of good posts here. I too am an old time Genesis fan, saw em in 70′s and 80′s many times. I’m dissapointed Peter is turning his nose up at this opportunity for fans of all era’s. It’s the fans that bought all the albums (group and solos) and waited in long lines, bought the T shirts, books and other. Can’t believe he wouldnt do this for us. We’ll lose the opportunity to here collins/gabriel harmony on songs like ‘for absent friends’ and ‘more fool me’. But even so, I’d be thrilled to have have collins front the band again and here the best of the old stuff up to and including duke. The rest of the later albums are mostly crap. Also, Chester Thompson and/or Bill Bruford needs to be there – you got to have a killer substitute for Phil while he’s singing, and don’t forget the unforgettable drumming duets that these guys put out.
Finally, I am sooooooooo dissapointed that Steve Hackett won’t be in the mix. Man, what in the world would keep him from this opportunity to revisit the glory and (gulp) potentially put out some new material..Steve would ensure any new stuff isnt 3 minutes in length and pop crap.
Gabriel says “oh I’m working on some new stuff so I’m going to pass” come on you twit – we can wait a little longer for your next solo effort..couldnt you step up to the plate (perhaps the last opportunity ever) and elevate a great concert into a religious experience for us serios progers?
Same with you Steve. Do you guys read what the fans are saying, and the buzz we are creating? Don’t tell me your going to pass up a concert venue for hundreds of millions of fans to do a 200 seat tour in friggin Estonia or Latvia or you too are working on “new material”..
Come on guys, make this happen for us the fans, as we paid for those guitar strings and piano keys.
just think of what you ask which we prefer progressive rock or pop well y prefer progressive rock
Well, it’s just further evidence that rich rock stars just aren’t interested in what their fans of old want. Sure a new PG album would be cool, but a reunion would be cooler, potentially reignite interest in Genesis and win a whole new gaggle of fans. Instead — more of the same. Who of us have heard the 20 solo Hackett recordings? Not many.

When I heard “Trespass” in 1971 for the 1st time I fell in love with Genesis. When Peter Gabriel left……….pretty much so did I. “Trick of the Tail” was great but after that thigs started to slip….album by album. Phil is an inspirational drummer, he truly drove the early band and the would have beeen nothing without him. He held the reigns in the turmoil of Peter’s departure. It would be difficult for me, who loved this band so much, to watch a mixture of “Supper’s Ready” and “Abacab”. How about a compromise and do a Gabriel TV reunion concert and a “Collins” TV reunion concert. Celebrating the two totally different groups. Whatever happens it is important the Genesis are remembered for what they gave to todays music.
