Trailer Blazer: "King Kong,' Jennifer Aniston and VInce Vaughn, and more

164511__kk_lFour new flicks!

-King Kong (Dec. 14) Okay, let’s not all pass out with excitement at once, but this one actually looks like the rare Event Movie that’s going to live up to the hype. The special effects are off the hook, the cast (including Naomi Watts, left) appears to be in magnificent form, and it’s frickin’ Peter Jackson! On second thought, pass the smelling salts.

-Transamerica (Dec. 23) Is Felicity Huffman going to get an Oscar to bookend her Housewives Emmy from earlier this year? It looks like a definite maybe, based on this trailer in which Huffman’s dignified portrayal of a transgendered woman reconnecting with her son eschews tired victim shtick, and aims for something far more touching, funny, and real.

-The Break-Up (Feb. 17) Sure, this preview’s pretty much all about Vince Vaughn’s stellar comic timing, but even David Caruso could deliver a line like ”I’ll play it like Lionel Richie; I’ll play this game all night long” and score a laugh. Not only that, barely suppressed hostility appears to be a good mood for Jennifer Aniston. The only question is: Why do we have to wait until February?

-Hostel (Dec. 21) Yeah, it’s exec-produced by Quentin Tarantino, and it stars should-be-a-household-name Jay Hernandez, but I’ll be darned if this horror flick doesn’t look more a lot more unpleasant than it does scary. Its R rating was earned through ”brutal scenes of torture and violence,” and if they’re willing to show a toe heading for sever-ation in the trailer, imagine where they’ll go in the actual movie. Not to be all Aunt Sassy, but I don’t need to see that!

So, which one of these is not like the others? The one I have no intention of seeing, of course! How ’bout you?

The Break-Up looks awesome. Tons of people went to see Mr & Mrs Smith just to see the real-life chemistry between Brad and Angelina and were subjected to a flimsy excuse for a plot. Not only do we get to glimpse the true chemistry between Jenn and Vince, but we get an actually funny and smart film as well. Go Vaughnistan!!

    King Kong looks awful.

Uh…I beg to differ! I thought the new King Kong trailer was out of this world.
The Break-Up looks…a little on the lame side, I’ve got to say. If the trailer was supposed to showcase the funniest parts of the whole movie, then it’s going to be really disappointing.
As far as Transamerica is concerned, I’ve heard some pretty God-awful things about it, but I’m still interested in seeing it.

I wish people would stop combining celebrities’ names when they’re dating or whatever. Vaughnistan sounds like a central Asian country…maybe one featured on “Alias.”

Am I the only one that thinks the dinosaurs and Kong still look fake in the King Kong trailer? They don’t blend with their backgrounds. How is that possible when Jurassic Park came out more than 10 years ago and looked realistic.
