Results! Top players in Oct. 24's Box Office Bull's-eye

Let’s give a great big virtualround of applause — but, alas, no prize — to Casey Smith and Barbara Fillion, the two top competitors out of 1,519 participants in the second round of our BoxOffice Bull’s-eye game. Both of themcorrectly answered six of the eight questions (they knew that ”Saw II” wouldfinish ahead of ”The Legend of Zorro” and ”Prime” at the box office). Butthey, and many other players, made the same fatal error by greatly overestimatingthe take for ”Doom” during its second week. Casey expected ”Doom” to earn $9 million and Barbara upped it to $13million; in fact, gaming freaks must have rushed to see the videogame-basedflick during the first week, leaving the film to earn a comparatively paltry$4.2 million during week two.

Casey’s other flub was shared bythe third- and fourth-place competitors, Stephanie Altishin and AnthonyCorvino. All three of them thought thatCBS’ ”Threshold” would have the highest network TV ratings in its Fridaynight time slot, on Oct. 28. The winner, however, was NBC’s ”E-Ring.” Meanwhile, Barbara shared a different error with Stephanie and Anthony– they all failed to predict that ”Bewitched” would come in at No. 2 onthe DVD sales chart.

So, what’s next? Well, we may have to adjust yet another question to make the game easier — until one of you wins it. In themeantime, keep playing every Monday to Thursday (closing time is 3 p.m.). Need I remind youthat first prize is a $50 gift certificate, which might help you get a few CDs and DVDs off your wish list?  And we’ll splatter your name all over EW.com, which of course, is beyond monetary value.
