Woody Allen speaks about his marriage

93956__allen_lLove him or hate him, you can’t accuse Woody Allen of holding back his true feelings on the rare occasion he grants an interview. Take his comments in the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair, for example. Allen tells the magazine that the day his ex Mia Farrow discovered he’d taken nude photos of her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn, it was ”one of the fortuitous events, one of the great pieces of luck in my life.” Allen eventually split from Farrow, and married Previn in 1997; he tells the magazine he has a ”more paternal feeling” toward his current wife. And while the director, who turns 70 in December, says he’s ”gained no insight” with age, at least he had the good sense to cast Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (and not himself) as the love interest for costar Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming Match Point. If he had, he might’ve extended his advantage in our listing of Hollywood’s most notorious on-screen cradle robbers.

How would you describe Allen’s latest interview: refreshingly honest or kinda gag-inducing? Sorry, Woody fans, I’m going with the latter.

i’m going with kinda cring inducing. perhaps his “paternal feelings” come from being her father before being her husband? gee, i wonder.
    just odd.

He’s so gross and weird. Paternal feelings for your wife? Yuck!!!

  • Sven

Strange? Sure, but give it a rest people. They’re not bothering anyone, so leave them alone. Should the day come when Soon-Yi leaves him, then let her speak for herself. In the meantime, you are just wasting everyone’s time with your griping.

When it comes to Allen, I force myself to divorce the art from the artist. Because although it’s none of my business how the relationship with his wife/daughter works, from the perifory, it looks disturbing.
I would rather enjoy Allen’s earlier works for the brilliant pieces of comedy that they are and ignore the details of his personal life. They’re unimportant in comparison to the artistic contributions that I respect him for.

Child molestation is EVERYONE’s business. Allen sickens me, and those who work with him are condoning his pedophilia.

While Woody and Soon-Yi’s relationship does cause me to shudder slightly, I agree with Tim Brazelton when he says we should just leave it alone. They’re not doing any public displays of affection things (as far as I know), so we shoudn’t feel we need to pry into their lives so much
Woody is my all time favorite director and screenwriter, and his films are so majestic and wonderful, I can’t be to repulsed by his relationship.

So she trust him with their kids? Remember the old saying “what goes around”. You know the rest.

  • Tim

I agree with Sean and Tom… Even if it’s weird, they don’t flaunt it all over the headlines.
Woody Allen IS a genius at films and I think with his marriage people forget that.

Sorry but his evolving relationship with his daughter – wife – daughter again? is very gag inspiring. And I have never understood the attraction to his work, none of it’s ever done anything for me.

GROSS! Paternal feelings toward his wife? no kidding he was her step-dad for years. Just the thought of them makes me want to puke!
