USA Today has an illuminating interview with funk founding father George Clinton to mark the release (well, it was almost two months ago, but better late than never) of the musician’s first new album in nearly a decade, How Late Do U Have 2BB4UR Absent? The best part of the interview, however, is the sidebar, a funk-to-English glossary. A sample entry:
Bop Gun: Dr. Funkenstein’s greatest invention — one blast capable of splanking the funkless. The Star Child zaps Sir Nose D’Voidoffunk with the Bop Gun and Nose dances to the rhythm of the flashlight.
Clinton’s dream of one nation under a groove lives on, but after reading a page full of such items, Middle America will probably understand funkspeak even less.

The funk language isnt bout definite terms, they are GCs’, u make your own phrases, and if peeps understand then well what d’ya know. Theres nothin wrong with copyin some of his linguistical genius, but real funk is about feelng it yourself. Anyway dats just me.
