Two years and about 50 million radio plays of ”Hey Ya!” later, OutKast are finally ready to drop their first CD of new material since 2003’s milestone Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Big Boi (right) tells MTV News that the duo finally have a firm release date, Dec. 6, for Idlewild. It’s the soundtrack to OutKast’s movie musical of the same name, due in theaters in Jan. 2006, that stars Big Boi and Andre 3000 as 1930s nightclub performers trying to keep gangsters from taking over their speakeasy. Guess that means there won’t be much hip-hop on the disc, though Big Boi also has a rap CD coming out soon, Big Boi Presents Got Purp?, marking tha launch of his Purple Ribbon label, with tracks by various artists, including Bubba Sparxxx, Sleepy Brown, and Killer Mike.
Excited yet?

i am confused. i bought idlewild st by outkast. is this widespread. there’s only one cut on the entire CD from the movie. fantastic movie!!! best thing i’ve seen since moulin rouge. Roadtrip in the offing? they are the absolute best thing musically , best pure turn since Chicago, Vol. 1. i perceived a lack of commitment to and respect of music kept me off rap(or whatever). this music is closer to center, which doesn’t make it bad or better, but in the recent popular music, these guys are adding significantly.
incredible art, amazing maturity. i’m an old white conservative at 62 but, wow! can i get a recording of the movie songs?
