Star Wars: Episode 3 1/2 -- Revenge of the Boob Tube

Categories: Star Wars

141152__sithbor_lHey Star Wars fans, want to know more about the upcoming pair of SW TV series? Promoting the Nov. 1 release of the Revenge of the Sith DVD, producer Rick McCallum drops a few hints in the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly.

You already know that there’ll be a computer animated series set during the Clone Wars (featuring an undisclosed set of familiar characters) and a live-action show set during the Imperial era between the two movie trilogies. McCallum tells EW’s Lynette Rice that this second series, due in 2007, will be a "much darker and edgier saga" involving previously unseen characters. George Lucas expects to spend about $1.8 million per episode on the live-action show (that’s not atypical for a first-year drama), but it’s likely that he’ll do what he did with the films: pay all the production costs himself and then license the distribution rights. While no TV outlet has picked up either series, Lucas says that if no one meets his terms: ”We’ll put them on DVD.”

As for whether any performers from the prequel trilogy will appear in the series, Hayden Christensen tells Rice he’s game for a cameo as Darth Vader if Lucas wants him to ‘’show up and act behind a mask.” What say, PopWatchers — excited yet?

I’m more interested in seeing a live-action series than the animated one. An episode “3 1/2″ series would rock! As for casting, it would be good to have some from the movies, but not necessary.

Today is “Ep Sato hates on stuff day”. Hayden Christensen was the WORST thing to happen to Star Wars since Greedo shooting first. In Ep 3, he was so bad you could smell his awful acting even under the darth vader suit! F-that man. Give me a real actor under the suit and keep ole’ James Earl Jones doing that voice!
On the flipside, I am psyched as all get out about the two new Star Wars series. But it does beg the question, just when will the circle be complete?

I really hope the live-action “Star Wars” series doesn’t end up on a network like the WB or UPN, where it will get overlooked (yes, even “Star Wars” can get unnoticed there). If Hayden Christensen wants to do Vader again, fine; we won’t be able to see him in the suit anyway. It would be wise for Lucas to keep some of the familiar characters in the fold, otherwise, it could get boring.

‘SW 3.5′ would rock my socks! Of course there are conditions that must be met. Like if we could have the greatness that came out of ‘ROTS.’ All of those Clone Troopers, perhaps some in hiding Jedi, and more of the Millennium Falcon.

I am the biggest Star Wars fan I know, but for some reason, the star wars tv shows do not get me psyched at all. I honestly imagine them to be terrible in a Babylon 5 kind of way. I really liked the animated clone wars and look forward to that more than the live action show. I just can’t imagine the series being that good for some reason.

Oh my God, I’m foaming at the mouth.
And to EP Sato..trust me I felt the same way about Hayden after Episode 2. I hated him. But your hatred should be directed towards George Lucas, who gave Hayden so little to work with. Imagine saying lines like “It’s all Obi-Wan’s fault” and “It’s only because I’m so in love with you” (after “you are so beautiful) and making them sound credible. Very hard. Watch Shattered Glass and you will see that Hayden can act.

I’m a huge SW fan, but like others, I probably won’t be watching the TV show (at least regularly). I think a lot of what Lucas placed into things like the animated Clone Wars cartoon, etc., should have ended up on the big screen. It would have given more foundation to the Anakin character. I can’t help but think EW purposefully mentions Christensen above just to rile up some folks but the flaws are not really his fault. They have more to do with poor character development and poor writing. Lucas is a genius and his contribution to the technical aspect of moviemaking is phenomenal. But writing (w/ the exception of story concept) and perhaps directing are not his strong suits.
