Madonna has angered some Kabbalist rabbis with her new song, ”Isaac,” about 16th-century Kabbalist sage Rabbi Yitzhak Luria. ”Jewish law forbids the use of the name of the holy rabbi for profit,” Rabbi Rafael Cohen told Israeli newspaper Maariv. ”Her act is just simply unacceptable and I can only sympathize for her because of the punishment that she is going to receive from the heavens.”
Of course, Madonna has inspired such talk before. Remember the good old days, back in the ”Like a Prayer” era, when people were upset about Madonna appropriating religious iconography because she was too sexy? Now, the complaint is that the Material Mom is just too materialistic. Yawn.
