Betting on Bono's Nobel Prize? You'll get around 8-1

Tagged:

174753__bono_lI’m not ashamed to say it: I like playing the ponies. I’ve been known to get involved in the occasional Survivor or Oscar pool, too. And yeah, my mom says back when I was in kindergarten, I used to pretend that flocks of birds in the sky were racing toward an imaginary finish line. But it’s not like I have a problem or anything.

On a completely unrelated note, did you hear about the odds SportsInteraction.com is putting on Bono scoring himself a Nobel Peace Prize? 8-1, dude! Seriously. Do you think the fact that Conan O’Brien is devoting his entire Oct. 6 show to U2 will help or hurt him? More importantly, isn’t former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari a heckuva lot more playable at 3-1? Lastly, in the running toward becoming America’s Next Top Model, I’m betting the house on under-the-radar, but over-the-top-fabulous Nik. Well, not the house, really. Just whatever I come out ahead on my Oprah-Scientology wager.

A tad off-topic: Did you guys read the NY Mag article on Conan? He seems to have a little feud going with Jon Stewart. When they asked about him, Conan’s people call the daily show “beneath their radar.” I’d love to see EW do a story on this behind-the-scenes rivalry.

I didn’t think it was possible for Bono to even be in the pool for Nobel Peace prizes. Hmm. Intellect and common sense going down the drain much?

  • Akusuka Movies Blog

    Bono is fake.
    i hate pretend popstars rockstars.
in my book, angelina jolie deserves the peace prize.
she actually been down on gorund zero!
bono comes in with a limo of bodygurads. dude, you can try to fool anyone all the time but not the time anyone? uhm.. wha.. oh whatever.

Bono and his ONE campaign have raised millions for Africa and helped convince the G* to attempt to eliminate poverty, but you are right. He’s not the real deal. He’s only the one that started taking all these hollywood types over to africa inthe first place (not to mention government officials). Angelina Jolie? Give me a break.

  • blossom

Oh I’m sure he’ll get it eventually. Call me cynical, but isn’t what all his ‘charity’ work has been for in the first place? I don’t see why he should get it, he’s rich and famous; it’s his and other persons of his ilks responsibility to bring attention to poverty in the world.

Hey! Akusuka Movies Blog, you should know that Bono does not have bodyguards. And he’s been to Africa many times. Get your fact straight before talking. Just because Angelina Jolie gives you a hard on doesn’t mean she deserves it.

Bono is a pompous jerk. His charities are great and he means well, but i just can’t bear the thought of him receiving a Nobel Peace Prize.

  • Tosy and Cosh

As a U2 fan, and one who like and admires the extra-curricular charity work Bono has spearheaded, I’d love to see him win. Does he deserve to win? I have no idea–I barely know enough about what he’s done, and nothing at all about any of the other contenders.

to liza, the very fact that Angie gives me a hard on, proves that she deserves to win some sort of trophy, if that is the nobel prize, so be it.
plus angelina jolie also saved Brad Pitt from the grip of that-girl-from-friends! that is some humanitarian move she made! hands down she should win!

To Aku Suka Movie Blog ,
I’m sure that’s the basis of the Prize committee. Hard on = Nobel Peace Prize winner. Sure makes sense to me. And as far as your Brad Pitt/Jennifer Aniston comment goes, I’m glad you’re so close with the both of them, and know their situation in it’s entirety, that you can make a remark like that. Or is your information coming from the tabloids? Because I’m going to guess it’s the latter.
I think it’s great that Bono has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Do I believe he should win? I don’t know. I’m not going to pretend that I follow this process closely, so who am I to make an uneducated decision when I don’t even have all the facts. That being said, I don’t believe the committee would nominate someone just because of that person’s popularity or star status. His work must be having some impact on the world to even have the privilege of being nominated. And I think that’s a great honor.

this is a joke! i know of a story that had bono refusing to sign a get well card for a woman who had just been diagnosed with lung cancer. This man could have eased her suffering by signing his name, he could’nt be bothered!
