Weekend To-Do List: Fatherly Love Edition

Categories: Weekend To-Do List

15550__stevie_l-Stevie Wonder sings of fatherhood, love, and social issues on A Time for Love, his first collection of new songs in a decade. It won’t be in stores for another three weeks, but you can buy the tracks online now. The album has quietly sneaked onto iTunes, made available just in time for today’s Grammy eligibility cutoff.

-Lindsay Lohan’s new single, ”Confessions of a Broken Heart,” is streaming free today only at AOL Music. It’s a surprisingly harrowing ballad, about Lohan’s notoriously troubled relationship with her dad.

-See Viggo Mortensen as a small-town family man who may also be a brutal trained killer in A History of Violence. Entertainment Weekly’s Lisa Schwarzbaum says the movie is ”without a doubt one of the very best of the year.”

-Pasadena, Fox’s acclaimed but short-lived gothic primetime soap about the wealthy and homicidal Greeley family, resurfaces tonight on SoapNet, beginning Saturday (7 p.m. and 10 p.m.) Only four episodes of the show, which starred Dana Delany, aired in 2001, but SoapNet will be airing the entire series over the next several Saturdays, including the nine never-before-aired episodes.

-Who knew The Shining’s Jack Torrance was such a cuddly, lovable dad? In case this one hasn’t landed in your e-mail inbox yet, check out this hilarious faux-trailer that recuts footage of Jack Nicholson and castmates to make the classic Stanley Kubrick chiller look like a warm, family-bonding dramedy. (Nice touch: putting feel-good trailer staple  ”Solsbury Hill” by Peter Gabriel on the soundtrack.)

The Lindsay Lohan track is more revealing and truthful than anything her contemporaries have done. I’m not sure if I like it yet, but I’d take it over music from either Duff.

I also was very much surprised when I heard Lohan’s song.
I thought I’d find a semi-pop-semi-dance, a-la-Britney track, but instead I found an honest song.
I agree, this track only is better than anything the Duff sisters have done.
It’s not going to change anyone’s life. But it is still a good confessional pop song, that you kinda learn to love more and more as you hear it. I wish some of the pop tarts of these days could do the same, ’cause it’d better for all of us….

From the cover, it looks like the title to Stevie Wonder’s new album is “A Time to Love” and not “A Time for Love”.
