Snap Judgments: 'The Apprentice: Martha Stewart,' 'Lost'

133459__ams_lSo, did all the hype, all the waiting throughout the summer pay off? Did you like the premiere last night of The Apprentice: Martha Stewart (left)? Were you satisfied by the Season 2 premiere of Lost? You can read’s full-length evaluations of both shows in their respective TV Watch columns (Apprentice: Martha here, Lost here). My two cents: Stewart’s ”You didn’t fail, you just didn’t fully succeed” pink slip was a cordial touch, but ”You just don’t fit in” is no ”You’re fired.” Where’s the ruthless, steely, cabbage-chopping Martha we know and love? On the other hand, Mark Burnett’s casting has given us a group of applicants whose collective hostility, treachery, and boneheadedness is certainly worthy of the Apprentice mantle.

As for Lost, I would never have predicted that what’s inside the hatch would be a gun-wielding, serum-injecting, Mama Cass fan, and one who had a cryptic encounter with Jack (Matthew Fox) long before the doctor ever boarded Flight 815. To me, that was a satisfying opening while still leaving plenty of tantalizing questions: Why was Desmond quarantined deep beneath the island? What’s the source of his his food, electricity, oxygen, and whatever that serum is? What’s up with all his ’80s-vintage computer equipment? Damn you, J.J. Abrams, you’ve got me hooked all over again.

lost rules! i’m so glad it’s back.
one comment re. apprentice: shawn could be the twin sister of alexis stewart. they clearly go to the same hair stylist.

I thought “you just don’t fit in” was much worse than “you’re fired.” Martha’s comment was more than a business decision, it is completely personal.

Oh Lost… how I love thee. As a new Lost fan – I got hooked on the DVD’s – I can now appreciate the misery of commercial breaks and the realization that it is 9:51 and you still haven’t seen the raft yet. As always, JJ Abrams impressed and I am so excited to see the season.

“Lost” is the coolest – and best – show on television …and Matthew Fox just keeps proving my point that the Emmy voters goofed when they did not nominate him for Best Actor – Dr. Jack is the glue that holds that shaky island together!
I was so entranced by that damn hatch and the hole it led down to – I didn’t even realize that they were saving Sawyer and the gang on the raft for …next week. It just goes to show you why J.J. Abrams and company are the BEST storytellers on television right now!!!
And I can’t wait to find out who and what Desmond is communicating with on that damn Commodore 64 computer down in his bunker – and does it play Pong…???

How do you end the recap show with the demise of the raft and then leave us to wait an extra week to find out what is going on? JJ is messing with my head.
My question is why is their so much focus on Jack’s wife/ex-wife? Is it because she was in Happy Gilmore?
I think this season very well might hold the breaking point for Ole Jack. When he gives into faith, but has to fall from glory before hand.

Desmond wasn’t the one quarantined, it was the island. Think about it, if the quarantine sign was on the inside of the hatch door, then that means that whatever is on the other side of the door is quarantined. In order for Desmond to be quarantined, the quarantine sign would have to be on the outside of the hatch door. Get it? Sneeky, huh?

What? No TV watch for America’s Next Top Model???

martha stewart – the apprentice was god awful. the “regular” apprentice was becoming tired but this one was much worse. i think it will ultimately speed the demise of the original and it’s about time. the donald is insufferable.

Martha sucked the big one. At least Trump is so delusionally in love with himself that it’s entertaining. Martha looks like she’s there for the money (which I guess she may need for another Birkin). Lost, on the other hand, is sheer genius. I had to watch it again to appreciate the complexity of the show. HUGE HUGE FINGERSNAPS!

How Would I know if it was good? Severe weather alerts in Minnesota interupted all but 5 minutes of it. No plans to reair yet either.

F-ing Lost. I’m totally in love with it again. I hate that my love for that show makes me feel dependent.

I can’t believe there are actually 7 million people out there that wanted to watch martha. I guess they’re the same people who watch jerry springer, huh?
