Yep, the screen’s first Batman wasn’t Michael Keaton or Adam West but Lewis Wilson. He starred in the 15-part The Batman adventure serial in 1943, to be released in its entirety on disc on Oct. 18. That’s Bat-Day in DVD Land, which will also mark the releases of two-disc special editions of the five Warner Bros. Batman movies, including this summer’s Christian Bale hit (left). No doubt some Batfans will hole up in their Batcaves and watch them all in one sitting. See you guys in November.

The Adam West series is really fun to watch for it’s campy goodness, but the 1943 dvd has been available for some time. I saw that joint over at Best Buy not two weeks ago.
As for two disc special editions, why would anyone want to spend money on the Batman with Val Kilmer (ruined by Chris O’donnell) or the Batman with Clooney (which I can say nothing nice about at all)?
On the other hand, it will be the shizzle dizzle to watch Bale as Batman, just after sitting through Memento, Equilibrium and American Psycho to warm up.
Gotham awaits!
