Hot new video: Green Day's "Wake Me When September Ends"

145058__sept_lCheck out Green Day’s poignant new video for ”Wake Me Up When September Ends.” The seven-minute epic features actress-of-the-moment Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell (left, of Billy Elliot fame) as teenage lovers wrenchingly separated when he enlists in the military and goes off to fight in Iraq. Samuel Bayer, who has directed all of Green Day’s recent videos (and, incidentally, the pep-rally-from-hell clip for Nirvana’s "Smells Like Teen Spirit”), tells MTV News that ”September” is the best thing he’s ever done — and it’s hard to argue.

Green Day rules. They could tour with Hall and Oates and I’d still respect them. I was moved to tears during the video and people stopped my my desk and watched it too. All too scary and surreal.

Wow. This is just great. What a beatiful piece of art.

It’s not THAT good guys. It’s actually kind of cheesy(dialogue expecially, and doesn’t really bring anything new or fresh to the video format. The song’s okay though, and it’s tough to argue against the fact that these are two excellent young actors.

That was boring, the song was boring, the video was boring and Evan Rachel Wood was seriously misused as the smalltown Avril.
Billie lacks any amount of charisma or stage presence that it takes to sell a song and he needs to lose the eyeliner, he’s gotting be heading to 40 soon.
Dookie was their only good album and that’s only true because I was a freshman in high school.
They should give up on their dream of being the “Next U2″ or the biggest band in the world, cuz it’s not gonna happen with whiny, syrupy sap crap like that.
P.S. TimeWarner owns EW and Warner Bros. records (GD’s label) so no wonder the praise.

Best Album of the last five years.
Maybe 10 years along with The Verve’s “Urban Hymns”

Video was just ok, but Green Day rocks and so does the song.

actually, Kerplunk was the best Green Day album. maybe someone (Chad) should look before mainstream Dookie for on educated opinion.
I do agree that the video was just okay. Evan Rachel Wood is over-rated, but Jamie Bell was fantastic! The song isn’t my favorite on the album though.
Green Day is trying to be the next U2?! Hahaha i laugh! Who would want to be them? U2 can’t get past Bono’s huge ego to get respect from anyone other than people who were in college when they started out.

Dialogue was hackneyed, but the song and the actors were good. The video was touching in an impermanent way.

Green Day is just a bunch of emos trying to be cool but they are really a bunch of queers on a little play of pissycakes.

  • Margret

Chad and iProd should shut up, first, wtf? they’re not from Warner Bros. Records you dingdong, they’re from Reprise, which is where awesome rock comes from…. and Billie is 33, so, you’re saying that 7 years away is close to 40? and if 60 year old women wear blue eyeshadow, y cant a 33 year old man wear black under his eye? no one said it wasn’t meant for men, at least no one who actually thought about it… second.. emos??? they r not emos, no where close even.. emos r just a bunch of whiners saying they’re life sucks, and they wanna die, and cry all day, and say how it sucks to live cuz life sucks, and it sucks to be them… they’re a bunch of idiots listening to music, which they call emo, when its not even a type of music…. so if you are using that to refer to green day… you better get the real definition of it first… and do not believe those things that say “they’re emotional, and its music.. blah blah blah…. emos are a type of person that only exists in the mind of an emo
ps. yea i told my brother than evan rachel would looks somewhat like avril lavigne, but i think she’s a lil prettier

This video is one of the best I have seen the video brings me to tears everytime cuz to be honest I think bout if I had a guy to treat me as good as he treats her I jus wouldnt want him goin to war.. I would be depressed til the day he came back. I dont really care for Greenday all that much but this is the best ever!

  • shannon

hmm.. okayyy green day is an amazing band. or acutally, was. there old stuff was just good, there the ultimate punks. from FOD to the grotch, they clearly dont care about what any of us think. we care to much about what other people think, okay to the point. the video, i would probably consider it really good if it were by another band. so,yeah its a good video. it just makes me sad that green day made it so far, and then started becoming so, different. I guess thats what bands do these days. but, I dont see what this has to do with the rest of the cd, so the song is about his dads death? put it on another Cd.

Green Day is the best…..but have you seen Backstreet Boy’s new videos man they rock like green day!!!

  • HockeyGirl4eva!

The video was great! Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell did an amazing job! And the song rocks. Green Day is just a great band. I love their newest album American Idiot, but my favorite album is Nimrod. I don’t think Green Day has changed at all, I think that they decided to write about what is going on in the world right now, and they always write about how they feel about things, and they’ve written some damn hilarious songs (ex. King For A Day). But no matter what, they always pull it off. Billie Joe, Mike and Tre kick ass and are just musical geniuses. GREEN DAY ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • nora
