Madonna's five best dance tracks ever

Madonna’s official website is promising fans a boogie-licious fall, with an Oct. 17 release date for her new single, ”Hung Up,” followed by the full album, Confessions on a Dancefloor, on Nov. 15. With Madge returning to her club roots, I thought it might be a good time to name her five best dance tracks ever (album tracks only — no remixes allowed). Drum roll, pleaseā€¦

5. ”Sky Fits Heaven” (Ray of Light)
4. ”Holiday” (Madonna)
3. ”Vogue” (I’m Breathless: Music From and Inspired by the Film Dick Tracy)
2. ”Nobody Knows Me” (American Life)
1. ”Music” (Music)

Okay, Madonna purists, I’ve donned my flame-proof bodysuit, and I’m ready for your furious efforts to incinerate me. What can I say? Even I’m aghast that I left out ”Deeper and Deeper,” ”Everybody,” and ”Into the Groove,” but nobody said paring down the list would be easy. Try it, and see for yourself.

But we can talk songs all day! What about “favorite Madonna moments”? I have a few that instantly come to mind, but please share yours:
    1) Tarrantino’s commentary about “Like a Virgin”.
    2) When Madonna made out with Wayne from Wayne’s world.
3)When she went down on the bottle in Truth or Dare.
4)When she got flirty with James Bond.
and my favorite: The scene in “Desperately Seeking Susan” when Madonna is reading old girl’s diary in her stalkings and garters. Woo Hyeah that was steamy! It’s also featured in the “Get into the groove” video

Here are my top 5 Madonna moments:
    5. Making out with Wayne from Wayne’s World
    4. When telling MTV News her new album was to be called “Like A Virgin” then laughs.. then makes fun of herself laughing
    3. Playing Nikki Finn in “Who’s That Girl?” in the ER when they’re about to admit Griffin Dune and the Nurse asks her his name: Nurse: “What’s his name?”
M: “Lauden”.. Nurse: “Lauden what?” M: “Clear..”
    2. during a promotional tv ad for the “MUSIC” album, she is standing in line to a club, she reaches the front and tells the guy she’s “Madonna” the guy says, “yeah right.. ” and doesn’t let her in.. she keeps insisting “she’s sooo Madonna” etc, then she wakes up.. :)
    1. In “Truth or Dare” she says “see, I get what I want!” and snaps at the camera.

Manuel! I’m shocked.. hardly anyone knows Up and Down Suite.. that was a classic club track! Man, I used to play the hell out of it when I DJ’d at clubs back in the early 90s.. cheers, you made me remember much!

Gee, that’s a toughie. Songs that get me up on the dance floor are markedly different in my mind than those I enjoy listening to in the car or at home, especially non-remixed tracks. Here’s my stab at it:
    5. tie: Holiday (“Truth or Dare” Live version), Music
    4. Beautiful Stranger
    3. Into The Groove
    2. Vogue
    1. Express Yourself
Actually, you didn’t ask but, Fever and Bedtime Story are my favorite songs by Madge, but I wouldn’t call them dancefloor material.

  • Manuel

    Good times Mario… Good times…

  • Kathryn

    1. Burning Up
    2. Express Yourself
    3. Vogue
    4. Ray of Light
    5. Deeper and Deeper
