Brace yourselves. Ashlee Simpson is nearly done with her sophomore CD, In Another Life. Her father tells MTV.com that two of the tracks (why two?) will focus on her infamous Saturday Night Live appearance last October, during which she was busted for using a backing vocal track. ”There’s no way to run away from failure because in everyone’s life, you’re going to meet it,” says stage dad Joe Simpson. ”So we try to teach our girls the way to do it is head on.” Papa Simpson reveals another song on the disc will be called ”Didn’t Steal Your Boyfriend,” which one can only guess is a response to tabloid accusations that Ashlee snatched That ’70s Show actor Wilmer Valderama from Lindsay Lohan.
With Ashlee drawing lyrical inspiration from her everyday life, though, I wonder how deep she’ll have to dig to fill out a full-length disc. Could we be treated to tracks inspired by her ironic appearance in a film originally titled Wannabe? Her ever-changing hair color? Her refusal to appear on Daddy’s new reality series, Filthy Rich: Cattle Drive?

Um yeah, I would prefer that she doesn’t “sing” at all (if that is what you want to call what she does). I am constantly amazed that their dad is able to fool the US public as much as he does – Jessica is a horrible performer (yeah, she has a good voice, but her charisma = ZERO) and if not for Jessica, Ashley would never have been thrust upon us.
I imagine that the Ashlee Simpson creative process goes something like this:
1. Jot everyday occurrences down in diary (“my poo smelled funny today,” “Ryan Cabrera could be gay, I guess,” and “Why did Dad walk in on me in the shower again?”
2. When record company comes calling, hand over the “best of…” diary entries, call them lyrics.
3. Superstar producers read “lyrics”, have a hearty chortle at Ashlee’s expense, subsequently churn out a radio friendly, kinda punky song, plugging in her babbling prose where they can.
4. Ashlee shows up at the recording studio, lays down vocals which will then be transformed from “wretched” to “slightly grating” thanks to powerful computer software.
5. Sell millions of albums (yay!) – thank fans, take 95% of credit, split remaining 5% evenly between God, producers, band, and Daddy.
Joe should be imprisoned for the way he has whored his daughters to the American public. Sickening in every degree….
How bizarre is it that Papa Joe is giving interviews about her album to MTV.com. Can Ashlee even speak for herself anymore? Maybe her album should include remakes of the following songs: “I’m a Slave 4 U,” “Control” and “Somebody’s Watching Me.”
Say what you will about Ashlee’s antics and her Dad Joe, but she (or her handlers) made a very listenable album that sold millions and millions of copies. I bought 2 copies, one for me and one for the girlfried, and have listened to it a lot. If her 2nd album is anywhere near as good as the first, I will definitely be a repeat buyer.
I also prefer that she just not sing at all…or at least only do it in the car or in the shower. Ashlee is not vocally gifted, so perhaps she should try to develop another talent.
I hope she records another album and makes some money just so she can get that nose of hers fixed!!!
Believe me, she’ll be a one album wonder and will no doubt turn up on a future season of the Surreal Life.
She should do a cover of
the 1960’s song “oh Daddy”.
Both Simpson sisters are easy on the eyes, but that’s it. Their singing voices are insipid, and their overexposure more so. Their father is creepy but a shrewd businessman to be sure.
The world is awaiting Ashlee’s latest disc as much as they are looking forward to the Apocalypse. This woman has ridden the coattails of her sister, and any one with an ounce of sense can see that she is a manfactured product.
Who would have guessed that Wilmer Valderama was such a hottie? It’s hard to imagine women actually fighting over Fez…
ashlee sings better than he sister anyways jessica sings like shes running out of breath and she does not look preety wehn she sings. i like ashlee as a singer and her first album was good and i hope her 2nd sounds good as well. as for jessica she needs new producers.

ASHLEE is an inspiriation to me, my sister is talented to she can sing dance and act, and when i listed to her album ,shadow really stood out to me ecspeacialy the first verse. ashlee really stepped out of the shadow and into stardom and success,she really spoke out and knew what she wanted to do,she has made me learn how to step out of my shadow , but not into stardom but into sucsess.i know this sounds real silly coming from a 12 year old english girl who can’t spell that well, but ashlee simpson is a real star, no matter what anyone thinks, i think she is a real star,and i cant wait till her next album is realeased in the uk, i’ve heard “l.o.v.e” and “i didn’t steal your boyfriend” and they are going to be BIG believe me!!!

omg ashlee has inspired me to sing and never give up, she has gone through VERY hard times and all u poeple who dont believe in her should just realize that she never says bad things about u and through her songs shes talented and yeah let her sing wut she wants because she put her mind to it and yeah the songs that inspired me was love me 4 me and undiscovered she is a girl with her own personality and u should just let that stand!

I bet half you guys sitting here slating Ashlee, calling her ugly etc are just trying to make yourselves feel better about you pathetic lives, she can sing, maybe not as good as some but she’s got a hell of a lot more talent than half the recording artists around at the moment, and listening to her music is a welcome break from all the crap bubblegum pop that is around. Ashlee Simpson is an Entertainer. An entertainer does not need to be the BEST singer or the Best dancer but if they posess the ability to project an image and style combined with singing, writing and stage performance and attractive good looks and a Freshness of a new Sound, then thats whatcha call a Star. Lets face it Ashlee has more of a pop punk image that Britney nor Jessica posesses. Its always about whats new and next in the business. Even though Pop Punk isnt new. Its new to this generation.
